Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
I saw that but was waiting for somebody else to mention it so thanks. The big one for me is the part about who must file and when. For the first time we have a major Thai law firm telling us that foreigners must file, not just everyone but foreigners specifically must file, when the assessable income thresholds are breached. NO mention is made of using common sense to see if tax is due and if not, making your own arbitrary decision not to file; NO mention is made of self assessing whether your TEDA levels means that you shouldn't file, if you TEDA means no tax is due. It's black and white and it's a law firm telling us, foreigners must file if they have over 60/120k of assessable income. Do I like it? Not much! But I'm happier that SIAM Legal interprets the tax rules the same way that I do and that we no longer have to rely on an unwritten rule that is supported only by a couple of farangs on AN. The other point worth mentioning is in the PWC video where they talk about the TRD using AI to determine which customer records should be audited etc etc. Take it with as many grains of salt as you wish but that's certainly the direction we're headed. The idea that TRD is several hundred people sat behind several hundred thousand grey metal desks, surrounded by mountains of paper tax returns, is not even remotely where we are. -

You will find examples of bad people everywhere that should be condemed but the strange sense of morality falls with you which is of course to be expected. There is no equivalency between Hamas and IDF. Hamas who deliberately kill, torture, gang rape, mutilate, use civilians as human shields, take innocent hostages including babies and children and the IDF who cause unavoidable killing even when following the law. I bet you still don't get it do you. -

Pick-up Truck Crashes Into Roadside Som Tam Shop, Killing 1 and Injuring 5
The driver of a pick-up truck carrying workers lost control and plowed into a roadside som tam shop, leaving one person dead and five others injured. A som tam vendor narrowly escaped after hearing the pick-up and running for cover just in time. On October 6, Pol. Capt. Suranun Meephan, an investigator with Ao Noi Police Station, responded to an emergency call about a pick-up truck veering off the road and crashing into a shop. The incident occurred on a rural highway connecting Ban Nong Yai Aem to Baan Nok in Moo 15, Ban Rai Yub, Ao Noi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. Rescue workers from Sawang Prachuap Thammasathan Foundation were dispatched to assist the victims and transport them to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital. At the scene, police found a white Toyota 4WD pick-up truck, license plate number from Prachuap, that had crashed off the side of the road. A crowd of onlookers gathered nearby, and tyre marks stretched approximately 50 metres, indicating the vehicle had lost control. The roadside som tam shop was in ruins, grills toppled, and the tiled roof shattered. A cow near the shop, had also been injured in the collision. Of the six people involved, two men and three women were injured, while one man, identified as 68-year-old Sombun Plai-ngam, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. According to witnesses, the truck was carrying six workers, all related, from Ban Nong Mai Kaen and heading to work on a pineapple farm in Ban Nikhom Kilo 8. The vehicle veered off the road, hitting the cow before crashing into the som tam shop, scattering goods and causing significant damage. As the truck lost control, the passengers were thrown from the vehicle, resulting in injuries and one fatality. Ms. Chanphen, also known as May, a 32-year-old som tam vendor, recounted that she was preparing her stall as usual when she heard the vehicle lose control. In a split second, she abandoned her stall and ran to safety. “The truck crashed into the shop, toppling everything. Only the front part of the shop remains intact. I was so scared—if I hadn’t jumped out of the way, I wouldn’t have survived,” she said. Ms. Chanphen also mentioned that she usually brings her child to sit in front of the shop in the mornings, right where the truck crashed. Fortunately, on that day, she had left her child at home, narrowly avoiding what could have been a tragic outcome. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and will proceed with legal actions accordingly. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-07 -

Where I shop in Pattaya, I won't say where, all the veg stalls and most of the fruit stalls, are run by Cambodians. They do a very good trade and have brilliantly fresh produce. I don't understand the complete absence of Thais. Maybe they don't like the idea of getting up at 1am or thereabouts to open up, unbox the deliveries, and stack them on the stalls. And work through til 4 or 5pm. I assume they're all legal as they seem very well established with excellent supply chains.
