Narathiwat forest fire now threatens Phru Toh Daeng peat swamp forest

NARATHIWAT: -- A forest fire that broke out in Sungai Padi district of Narathiwat almost a week ago has destroyed more than 200 rai of forest reserve in Bang Nara river basin and is now spreading to Phru Toh Daeng peat swamp forest.

Fire fighting authorities reported sighting more than 10 major hotspots from yesterday’s two hotspots with now over 200 rai of forest areas being destroyed.

Authorities are now setting up a fire fighting centre at Ban Taseh Tai on Tambon Parulu of Sungai Padi district.

They hoped to stop the spread of the fire to the peat forest by today.
