Boot Cleaning

Tried using search but only found topics in reference to pharmacies. I have a pair of tanned leather (not black) boots I'd like cleaned and waxed. Who/where might be able to do this? Tried to keep an eye out at Wararot, but didn't see anyone.

I brought some mink oil from Rimping and it's great on my leather boots. Keeps the leather soft and adds waterproofing which is great if I'm out on the bike and get caught in a downpour. Not much luck of that happening for a while me thinks.

Perhaps we all clean our own footwear..smile.png

Or our maids do.

Seriously, I haven't seen a "shoeshine stand" anywhere in Chiang Mai. Not even at a five star hotel. I would imagine the upscale hotels would arrange to take care of this service for their guests, though.

Can you buy Dubbin here? I have to admit I haven't looked for it but I'm sure you can get something similar. Perhaps one of the shops specialising in leather - there is one somewhere between the Imperial Mae Ping and Chiang Mai Gate, opposite side of the road from the moat, I can't remember exactly where but closer to CM Gate than the hotel. I think they do made to order, if they don't clean and Dubbin themselves they would either sell it or be able to direct you to somewhere.

Mr K has a pair of Rockport walking boots, not hiking, not dress, just boots, now stored in England for when we visit as he has no need for them here. He's had them for 23 years, they cost AU$400 in a 50% off sale - they've been re-soled 4 times (at between $100- $150 a pop) and he cleaned them thoroughly and applied Dubbin 3 or 4 times a year since he got them and wore them and wore them and wore them. They still look like new, except they probably need re-soling again - definitely worth looking after.

That has to be amongst the best (expensive but totally worth it) bargains we've ever snagged.

I think it is between the Imperial Mae Ping hotel and the South East corner of the moat. As you say on the opposite side of the road.

You can also buy dubbin at Rimping (Well the iron bridge branch at least). Years ago it was the end all and be all when cleaning and preserving the rugby ball. Now with synthetics I'm not so sure.

I'll repeat what I said earlier. Rimping also stock mink oil which in my opinion is better than dubbin.

Personally I think 400 Oz dollars is way over the top for a pair of Rockports. Now if you're talking RM Williams boots then I don't have a problem. Well made and patented to protect their excellent product. I've never had a problem with RM and they guarantee their products like no other.

I've also had Rockport. They are OK IMO but that's as far as I'd go.

But then if you buy something that fits and you like then <deleted>. Go for it and enjoy.

Get some nice Saphir polish, some Saphir Renovateur liquid, a horsehair brush, a little aerosol of alcohol mixed in water....and you can get a mirror shine going on most good leathers. I find the shoeshine kids in thailand dont have a clue what theyre doing.

Is the OP really wanting his boots cleaned ?

Has he never heard of DIY?

If he sends the boots to me my wife will clean them for the bargain price of $500 (excluding return postage)

Where should I send them?

I'm okay with the price, do you have a paypal account so that I can make the payment?
