Visa Expires 9 May

Featured Replies

Immmigration offices are closed that day. If I go on the 10th for my extension will I have any problems?

Thanks.

No. But you must go the very next day that they are open

You can go earlier, the extension starts from last day of your current permission to stay anyway.

Are you sure they are closed on Monday May 9th?

  • If they are closed you can get the extension of stay on the 10th and shouldn't be charged overstay.

I would be tempted to go on the 6th, even though you should be OK on the 10th.

Edit: I notice 5 M ay is Coronation day and 6 May a 'bridging ' holiday, so 10th may be the best ption. One never knows if they will take the extra days or not, even though they are not official holidays. The next Buddha Day is 20 May.

Today would have been the last day. Immigration is closed on the 5th and 6th.

If its a day after a long holiday, you should get there really early , like 2 AM, just to make sure you get served .

Otherwise it will be a 1000 Baht fine, if you have to go the day after

Immigration is closed from tomorrow 5th up and incl. Monday May 9th!

I read reports about signs posted at immigration offices (e.g. at Chiang Rai).

In reality too late today.

Be prepared for huge crowds on Tuesday the 10th.

Friday May 20th is the next closing day wink.png

I have never seen a country with so many holidays.

I am just saying.

Your only problem will be the huge amount of people waiting to be served due to the additional long holiday 'weekend'.

Thanks everyone, especially Luke who suggested 2am. I'm just going home from the bars then!!!!

"One never knows if they will take the extra days or not, even though they are not official holidays."

The dates are published, even on Thai Visa, and immigration offices stick to the authorized holidays. One may never know without checking, but that's not immigrations' fault.

Government holidays are only for government and bank employees, the rest are not privileged enough.

Absolutely.

This archaic "ploughing ceremony" on Monday is as far from the village life as the earth from the sun.

A zero event.

Today's holiday is worth a short visit at the temple in the morning for some.

My visa expires on the 6th of May. Does that mean I will be charged overstay of 2000baht? If so... seems a bit unfair.

As previously stated in this thread, you need to go on the very next day that they are open and you will not get a fine

What would happen if I went at 3pm, surely they would have to process my extention???

3 PM on Tuesday?

Which office?

Good luck.

As far as I know the worst offices in Thailand close the doors before 10 AM or so wink.png

Why not do that and let us know what happens.

Do not forget to tell them that they must accede to your demands.

Depends on the office. CW (Bangkok) stop entry at 3:30 to give time for everyone to get served, but each office will have it's own rules.

Just to update you guys on Chaengwatthana.

Had a friend, his permission of stay expired yesterday 9 May for a tourist visa.

Just got his 30 day extension dated 10 May to 8 June. No fine, and no extra chop justifying 9-10 May.

That's good, I'm waiting in the queue, been here for 5 hours, I think another 2 more. Someone arriving at 9am just got her extension at 16:45

That was for a tourist visa extension. No more than in a normal day apparently at counter J i am being told. (Stopped at 79 at midday so that looks normal). I think the crowds are at the ED, nonB or non O counters.
