NLA takes part in international meeting on ASEAN children

BANGKOK, 6 May 2016 (NNT) - Members of the National Legislative Assembly have participated in an international meeting to discuss issues related to the children of ASEAN.

NLA member Pol. Gen. Chatchawal Suksomjit this week led a group of members of the Thai legislature to participate in the Child Global Forum on South East Asia, which began on Wednesday, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The international forum is under the patronage and active participation of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Sweden and has seen the participation of leaders and decision makers from business, government, academia and civil society to identify opportunities enabling responsible businesses to contribute to the realization of children’s rights in the ASEAN region.

At the forum, which runs until May 6, Pol. Gen. Chatchawal delivered a lecture on the NLA’s efforts to prevent children from illegal exploitation and involvement in the sex trade through the amendment of related criminal laws, which has resulted in harsher punishments for all involved in such illicit activities.

He also urged all neighboring governments to show the same commitment by passing more stringent laws to protect the children of ASEAN.
