It's possible that this has been asked/discussed on the forum previously but maybe missed it somehow. If so, my apology.

I'm having a retirement visa that will expire on August 9th and my next 90 days report will be on May 12th.

I just returned from a 3 weeks visit to family in Europe last Tuesday May 3rd. Everything alright.

But a friend of mine claims now that a new 90 days period is going in effect from the 3rd so I would have to go reporting only towards the end of July!!

I'm a little confused in this and surely want to avoid any problems with Immigration.

Any clarification on this will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you come back to Thailand with a Re-Entry Permit, your 90 day clock starts the day you come back to Thailand so May 3rd.

Your next reporting date will be around 31 July 2016

Your friend is correct.

  • The 90 day count resets to day 1 on the day you returned to the country.
  • Your next report is due on July 31st.

So you should renew your retirement extension and do your 90 day at the same time, on 31st July.

At my local office, Khon Kaen, if you tried to do only a 90 day report on the 31st July, as your present retirement extension expires on the 9th August, you would then be given a 90 day reporting date of 9th August. i.e. they will not give you a 90 day reporting date past the end date of your current extension.

The 90 day report is intended for those who remain in-country for 90 continuous, uninterrupted days. If you left the country and returned, your stay was interrupted so you start counting the 90 days again.

The day you re-entered Thailand is day one, so your report would be due 89 additional days from then, on 31st July.

If you have an extension of stay based on retirement (not a visa) which needs to be renewed in August, you can go in at least a month before it expires, so you might be able to do the extension and report at the same time, depending on your timing.

"I'm having a retirement visa that will expire on August 9th "

Technically there is no visa called a "retirement visa," but if you mean you actually have a valid, unexpired non-imm O-A visa (commonly called a retirement visa) issued at a consulate or embassy, then when you last entered the country you would have been given another year's permission to stay even though the visa expires in August.

And not on the 31st (Sunday) biggrin.png

First date for 90 day report in person in this case is Monday July 18 onward, latest Friday August 5.

Fits perfect for the extension.
