$1/30 baht menus in Pattaya

Featured Replies

I notice these are not as popular here compared to the US. I have so far only seen one at McDonalds (and then even the beach road/walking street Mcdonalds charge a little more).

Are they at any other popular chains in Pattaya?

What do you get for 30bt?

Even soup noodle on the street is more

Hamburger, chicken burger, a couple other items.

Given their buying power and level of service automation, I think McDonalds can offer a comparable quantity of food for less than a street vendor.

McDonald's aren't seen as down-market here, so don't need to.

I hope not, as it's a stretch to even call McDonald's 'food'.

A common misconception. Restaurant food is actually even worse than fast food, according to studies: http://globalnews.ca/news/2129802/fast-food-vs-restaurant-fare-which-is-worse-for-your-waistline/

Of course home cooking trumps everything else.

Ok, Yankee. You win.

No winners and losers in this thread, just trying to clear misconceptions :-)

I bet your $5/150 baht meal is a lot closer to a heart attack. But tell yourself the story that expensive is better, if it lulls the pain.

I don't know for the US, but here in Pattaya they are very popular!

The smallish Thai restaurant near my condo must sell hundreds of meals at every lunch.

And no, they are not for cheap charlies only wink.png

Most Thai street or tin shack places have meals for B30 .Doubt you will get anything in McDonalds ,other than their revolting Coffee for that .Sometimes i eat in Teso Lotus Foodcourt. They are mostly B40 up for any meal .

Agree with Anto...try the Thai food courts at the nearest Tesco or Big C for inexpensive eats. None of the Western fast-food chains in Thailand have "value" menu items like in Western markets. I never get them but even a basic hammie at Mickey D's is probably at least 60 baht.

McDonald's usually does have some cheap items. In the last few weeks they had their filet-o-fish for 49 Baht and they usually always have some chicken or pork burger promotion at 39 Baht going. But then again, you might as well eat the 20 Baht burgers from 7-Eleven tongue.png

big c foodcourt . pattaya klang or any big c for that matter.

back street thai food stalls.

oh hell...... just dig a little deeper, why am i even replying to you rolleyes.gif

If you only want cheap just go to any market. There is usually always 1 plate rice + 1/2/3 meat/veg/curry for 25/30/35 Baht. Or you buy the pre-packed meat/veg/curries in the little plastic bags that are sold in many shops and from moto vendors for only 10 Baht.

But considering a large Chang is already 55 Baht, I find it a bit strange to want to save the last little penny on food. Sure most Thai places charge 40-50 Baht for a standard meal? That's only like 1 euro? Why go any cheaper?

>>But considering a large Chang is already 55 Baht,<<..Yes i am a bit pissed off about that .My local mum and pop store just increased the price from B50 to B52 .I think i will switch to Cheers beer .( which tastes ok to me .)

Just go by the carton, only 45 Baht burp.gif

Just go by the carton, only 45 Baht burp.gif

Would not work for me .If there is beer in the house i will drink it ,and end up drinking too much .

I bet you felt pretty clever writing this.

Next time I go to Mcdonalds I might have to snap a pic of the dollar menu.

My wife and I can go expensive or we can go cheap. Not fussed at the occasional sub 100 baht menu for two including a plate of rice and curry with accompanying soft drinks. Try it.

My apologies guys, I've been lashing out in several food related threads lately and the common denominator is me. So I'll shoulder the blame for the infighting. I suppose I have a different view on food (as either a fuel source or a cheap occasional cheat meal) especially in a town like Pattaya.

You'd be better off eating the 20 Baht note.

LOL. We're the same. We go both ways too... when we go out we usually spend between 500 and 1000 baht on a meal, but we also don't mind the occasional microwaved meal from the 7Eleven freezer at somewhere between 30 and 50 baht. In all honesty, the frozen meals at 7Eleven are probably healthier than street food and it always tastes the same. i.e. no surprises.

Am I welcome on this thread? I never eat McDonald's, ever - hate the stuff no matter what the price.

All that off topic bickering has been removed, lets try to keep it civil please smile.png
