UEFA boss Platini to resign after appeal to lift football ban fails

ZURICH: -- UEFA President Michel Platini has said he will resign from European football’s governing body after he failed to get his six-year ban from soccer overturned.

Platini’s lawyer made the announcement following a Swiss Court for Sport’s Arbitration’s decision to maintain, but reduce his ban to 4-years on appeal.

The Frenchman is expected to quit in the coming days.

It follows last year’s guilty verdict for ethics violations over a so-called ‘disloyal payment’ in 2011.

Both Platini and his FIFA counterpart at the time, Sepp Blatter, who made the payment, deny wrongdoing.

However, the latest court ruling disagreed. It said it was ‘not convinced by the legitimacy of the payment.’

Ban football / soccer. The most corrupt and greedy business.

yeah, I used to like it a lot and played until 58 , the money has taken over the game and the boys have become spoiled bratts. I completely lost interest.

Well done Platini, go lick your wounds in luxury.

Let's hope the Swiss investigators and prosecutors find enough evidence to charge Platini and his mate Blatter for fraud and embezzlement.

There was nothing but a supposed gentlemen's agreement between the 2 for a payment that was paid some 9 years after doing the work! No contract, no provision in the accounts, lies about it being delayed due to the financial situation of FIFA.

Come on guys, get the evidence and put them away where they belong. And let FIFA pursue getting it's stolen money back.
