French cabinet votes to force through controversial labour reforms

PARIS: -- The French cabinet has agreed to allow controversial labour reforms to be forced through.

They invoked a little-used Article (49.3) in the constitution to enable Prime Minister Manuel Valls to bypass parliament after a number of MPs from the ruling Socialist party said they would vote against the bill.

Valls said:
“I’m doing it, they’re doing it, because we are convinced this project is acting in favour of long-term employment. It will give people access to the workplace, people who’ve been excluded. Significantly, our small businesses will be able to hire staff. This law will give flexibility and reactivity to our businesses.”

However, opponents say the decision is “anti-democratic” and claim it will allow employers to sidestep workers’ rights on pay, extra hours and breaks.

The only way to halt the bill now would be to call a specific vote of no-confidence – known as a motion of censure – in parliament within 24 hours. This is not expected to happen as the move would bring down the government.

The joys of globalism, being rolled out by the corporate/political elite via secretly negotiated phoney "free trade" deals such as the TPP and TTIP, and the flooding of developed countries with poor immigrants to destroy decent wages and conditions and create a "level playing field" of cheap labour across the planet.

Is there no limit to the greed of the wealthy One Percent? And how much longer are we going to sit on our backsides and pretend none of this is actually happening?

IE, anyone planning a vacation in France this summer: don't expect the trains to be running or the airports to be functioning.

Divide and conquer my friend. Many people however get off their behinds and are protesting. Many, like me, use the pen. Too old for physical stuff.

Here we go 'Trickle Down Economics' again. Exclude workers from a fair share of productivity, remove workers representation, remove worker benefits. Tax cuts for the rich and Corporate France. What do you get? America

All under the absolute BS of jobs and growth. flexibility and re-activeness believe that and you really are a fool.

Better make a stand now, bring down the government and elect a new one. Once this Capitalist cancer sets in it is irreversible as American citizens are finding out.

There is absolutely no end to Corporate greed. One day it is worker conditions and entitlements next day it is an entire population living below the poverty line working 5 jobs 70 hours a week surviving on Food Stamps.

About time France started reforming the labour sector. Now, if they could only do the same with the farmers France (and EU) would benefit greatly.

Yep Capitalist greed - the rich get richer the poor get poorer.

The best way to get jobs and growth - pay workers more tax the wealthy and business elite and cut Corporate welfare. Give the money to the wealthy and Business elite they simply put it in their pocket ship it offshore into tax havens to avoid tax.

Let this crap fly and next it will be 'Austerity Measures' so more tax cuts to the wealthy and Corporate elite can be paid.

Much will depend on the choice of your Airliner to get there.

How the human resources manager of Air France had to flee the scene lately, due to social protests...

2 AF execs had their shirts ripped off that day. To their credit they took in in good spirits ( but have not resiled from the determination to get the airline on something like sensible IR ground).

I wasn't sure what the negotiations were about but looks like they are going well. lol

Good for them to take it in good spirits. Probably wasn't what they were expecting from the peasants. They didn't say 'let them eat cake' did they.

That photo has given me a laugh.
