Committee on Mobilizing Social Reform Agendas delivers 6-month progress report

BANGKOK, 12 May 2016 (NNT) - The Committee on Mobilizing Social Reform Agendas of the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) has delivered its progress report of the past 6 months.

Chairman of the NRSA Committee on Mobilizing Social Reform Agendas Anothai Rittiphanyawong along with related subcommittee heads held a joint session to detail their progress of mobilizing various social reform agendas in the past 6 months.

On the agenda of consumer protection, the committee on mobilizing social reform agendas had met with related agencies to ensure accurate calculations mobile phone charges. Those at the meeting agreed that service providers must charge consumers based on actual seconds used.

The subcommittee on strengthening communities reported on its work in creating reports on land banks and community water management in order to be included in the country’s land and community resources management policy.

The subcommittee on reforming assistance measures for the elderly and underprivileged reported on its work in drafting a reform platform, following up on the establishment assistance centers for the disabled, creating draft legislation on work for the elderly, stipulating ways to expand work opportunities for the elderly and proposing a mechanism to support the health of the elderly population.

Meanwhile, the subcommittee on labor and consumer protection reform had followed up on skill development policies, migrant worker management, ensuring data safety of consumers and compensation mechanisms for affected consumers.

Finally, the subcommittee on specific-policy reform mobilized the implementation of reforms on mobile phone calculations of charges, and the enforcement of traffic laws against motorcycles driving on sidewalks, signs blocking walkways and excess pollution from vehicles.
