I'm on holiday here at the moment but return home to the UK after 6 fabulous weeks. I sew for a charity in the UK called Wrap pyjama fairies. we buy our own cotton fabric and make specially designed pyjamas and hospital gowns for kids up to the age of 12 when they require any kind of hospital admissions. These garments are given free to the parents and all that is asked is a £3 postage fee.

the reason for my post is to ask if anyone has ever sent back a large amount ofcotton fabric and if so, was it subject to any kind of import duty.

I've bought a small amount to take home but as my son lives in Bangkok, he has offered to buy at regular intervals and send to me.

the price and quality of the cotton is excellent. For the same quality at home I would have to pay at least 3 times as much.

As I say, we are a registered charity now and all of us sewers who are members buy our own material and donate it free.

Can anyone throw any light on possible import duty fees or not.

Apologies if this post is inappropriate.

Jan Hughes.

Put it down on the invoice and shipping documents as a sample or gift with a value of less than USD 50 and you should not have any problems in the UK
