Apologies if this is in the wrong place, so mods, please feel free to move it.

OK, I'm planning on going on a little solo motorcycle trip at the beginning of next month and am after some advice.

I am starting off from Pattaya and am riding a Honda Forza. I'm comfortable with 200-300km a day, don't want to spend all my time on the bike and am in no hurry at all. I can speak basic, but reasonable Thai. Certainly enough to ask for directions, order food, explain what I want etc

Right, my problem is that I have little or no idea of what routes to take, reasonable places to stop for the night or a few days etc. All I really know is that my route will be roughly go up the eastern side to the top of Thailand, turn right and come back down south on the western side and turn right again in the direction of Bangkok and then back to home.

This is literally the extent of my plan at the moment and that can change!

So, if anyone has done a similar route I would really like to hear any recommendations of decent / interesting places to stay, interesting roads etc.

Living in Pattaya, as you can imagine I quite enjoy bars and interacting with Thai women, but can imagine that these places might be few and far between.

Hope I don't come across as being totally lazy! I just really want to take advantage of others experiences/

head northeast an follow the Mekong all the way around to Nan,head north to Chinag Rai an dhtna head south to Chinag Mai- Lampang-Ayutthia-Pattaya or till ur bored or run out of time .

i do yearly trips form phuket up north and than down to surin and into Cambodia before returning via Pattaya to home

You could be really adventurous an head to Trat an enter Cambodia (you only need the bikes book be in ur name) up thru Cambodia ( Phnom Penh, Siem rep) exit at Osmach, south of surin an than as above, follow the Mekong.

are you looking for,

if not Thai?

One where you can mix it up with the bar girls, have a laugh, play pool, talk nonsense etc

I'm good at talking nonsense in thai and English come to think of it

As much time as I need. I've never been anywhere north of Bangkok.

I'm not what I'd describe as a culture vulture

It's obviously hard for anybody to suggest anything/anywhere with confidence not knowing you and your likes/dislikes. We (family) tour the north, isaan and east extensively. If I was to recommend one section of a possible tour to you, it would be the mae hong son loop. We did the Tak..mae sot..mae sariang..MHS..pai..chiangmai..lampang..sukhothai big loop which was great. A shorter version is mae sariang..MHS..pai..chiangmai which might be better on your bike. It's great up in the hills.

The roads from Chiang Khong to Nan (1155 & 1148) are classic bike roads.

From Nan you can do a day ride: a loop from Nan over the mountain (Doi Pukha) to Pua and back to Nan. Fantastic roads and scenery.

The roads between Nan and Loei are great also.
