April 28, 200422 yr Author I think there is confusion here. 400K married 800K retirement are the figures for extending visa's once you are in Thailand. I have not seen anything that says these also apply to people applying from outside the country, for a new visa. After all if you have not arrived in Thailand with a Non-Imm visa you cannot have opened a bank account or moved money into it. Logic would suggest that the embassies should apply the rules to subsequent applications, but when did logic ever apply in Thailand?
April 28, 200422 yr erm, fortunately, I'm not married to a Thai but have sort of "retired". I'll be in Oz next month and will call the BNE consul and update this Immi query. Anyone in BNE at present? TIA

There was no confusion on my part, it seemed obvious to me that Udon was talking of an extension. Some Thai posts are asking for evidence that applicants have the wherewithall to comply with the financial requirements for extension.
