Hello,

After moving to BKK earlier this week, I´ve had a company install a new cable TV and broadband access in my condo (PN Cable TV, the company is called). For the broadband they installed a TP-Link WR841 ND Router. So far so good, since the speed and stability of the internet connection is absolutely fine.

Mind you, for various reasons I wanted to set up the Apple Time Capsule and another Apple Express (as a repeater) but I fail to get it up and running. Back in the UK with Virgin Media it was a simple plug and play situation. Over here, when I replace the TP-Link with the Time Capsule the TC (after turning off and on the cable operator´s modem) will not get an internet connection. I am not very good at IT things but what I remember the Airport program indicating were 2 issues: one saying "No internet connection" and the other "No DNS" (or something with that meaning at least). Over the last few days I´ve tried it on numerous occasions but to no avail. Never got the Time Capsule to work.

I understand that it is always difficult to help someone else based on very limited information available etc but I wondered if anyone has experienced similar issues (with an Apple TC or any other replacement wifi router) and could therefore give me some tips on how to potentially solve my problem here. Would be great!

Thank you!

I have a Time Capsule connected to a generic ADSL modem and use the TC as my wireless access point. When you connect to your TC using AirPort Utility:

- Under the Internet tab, is Connect Using set to DHCP?

- In the Network tab, is Router Mode set to Off (Bridge Mode)?

Hi,

Thank you to both of you! I will follow your suggestions and report back once I´ve tested it. This might only be in a few weeks since I, unfortunately, have to fly back to Germany tomorrow morning.

I am sure I saw DHCP mode but the "Router Moder: Off (Bridge Mode) might be the missing part in the puzzle. Fingers crossed.

Hi,

I am back in BKK and just tried it again but to no avail.

In the airport utility program it shows the error message (the red 1) that I don´t have internet access and that the TC does not have a valid IP address. I made sure it is in Bridge Mode and have it set to DHCP. As I am a dummy with these things I have no idea what else I have to do. It all worked so brilliantly back home in London with the Virgin Media router. Sigh!

A few more things: When I compared the sreenshots posted by wooloomooloo to what I see I noticed that in AirPort Utility there was no DNS server shown neither and the field for the router is greyed out (due to Bridge Mode?). Is there anything I could try with the DNS server? Which one should I put in? I have no idea and I don´t know if this makes any difference to the problem I have with "No internet connection" and the "No valid IP address".

I am more than happy to try something differently if you have any more suggestions. It probably is a brutal newbie problem only but as I said, I am a dumb user and if something doesn´t work I have no idea why.

Any help will be appreciated. Cheers!

Beats me as well. Should work with it in Bridge Mode and Connect Using DHCP.

You do not need to make an entry for DNS servers. Your router will take care of that.

Do you have an IP address showing up at Router Address?

The only other thing I can think of if you have not tried it already is to set the TC back to factory default settings and try setting it up again.

Also, are you sure the LAN cable between your router and TC is good?
