Many prospective investors eye Rubber City project in Songkhla

BANGKOK, 18 May 2016 (NNT) - Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) governor Weeraphong Chaipherm disclosed that IEAT has been promoting the Rubber City project in Songkhla province and found that a large number of prospective investors had shown interests in it.

Chinese investors are among those showing great interest in investing in the industrial estate while the Rubber Authority of Thailand has assured that there will be enough rubber to supply to manufacturing plants to be built in Rubber City.

He added the industrial estate will be equipped with rubber specialists and scientists who will contribute to technological and productivity growth.

Several local small- and medium-sized rubber manufacturers are also planning to set up factories with a combined value of at least 2.4 billion baht to produce block rubber and rubber tires.

What are the odds that Suthep has a financial interest in the Rubber City project?

Suthep's political power base is the rubber farmer network in the South.

In January 2016 he led efforts to have the Prayut government subsidize the price of rubber sheets ... and Prayut did through his Purchase Point program.

to produce block rubber and rubber tires.

So the "government" will sell or give them sheet rubber, which they've been stock-piling, and then buy back block rubber and rubber tires.

Sounds like a (populist) plan?
