DPM says politicians barred by the NCPO should still give views on draft charter

BANGKOK, 18 May 2016 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense has assured that politicians who have signed attitude adjustment declarations with the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will not be barred from panel discussions with the Election Commission (EC) on the draft charter.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has remarked that all citizens should be welcome to join in the EC’s discussions on the draft constitution, even those who have signed agreements with the NCPO promising to abstain from political activity. He affirmed all politicians should be able to participate in the activity to allow for a range of views.

The deputy premier also gave his view that if the draft charter does not pass public referendum, a new Constitution Drafting Commission should be formed and that past charters should be adapted into a new document. He said a clear process must be established as the constitution is a pivotal part of the nation’s progress.

Why? So they have an excuse to lock them up and keep them out of the way? 'We warned you, we sent you to AA but you still...'

"The deputy premier also gave his view that if the draft charter does not pass public referendum, a new Constitution Drafting Commission should be formed and that past charters should be adapted into a new document."

Which would more or less say exactly the same thing but in different words. These people have no intention of ceding power, end of.

"all citizens should be welcome to join in the EC’s discussions on the draft constitution, even those who have signed agreements with the NCPO promising to abstain from political activity."

Little note to everyone who wants to participate: your opinion better coincides with the EC's otherwise it is jail time.

Gen Prawit Wongsuwan on 2016-04-25:

- "political movements both for and against the draft charter, which is to be put up for public referendum later this year, are illegal under the new -

- "Public announcements in support of or against the draft constitution through the media is not permissible"

But now all politicians should be able to participate in the activity to allow for a range of views.

How very confusing. So laws are to be strictly obeyed but the Junta can change its mind at any moment to (graciously) allow people to violate the law.

I call that Law & Disorder - Junta justice

At this point, it's just posturing, giving the appearance of permitting free speech.

But really all that has been conceded is that potential critics will be allowed to participate within whatever format and constraints the EC imposes.

Today's word is: simulacrum.
