LAGOS: -- There is fresh hope for the relatives of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria, after one of them was found.

The girl, named as Amina Ali Darsha Nkeki, is the first of the group – snatched from a school in Chibok – to be rescued.

She was located along with a four month old baby near Damboa, in the remote northeast, close to Sambisa forest and not far from the border with Cameroon.

“Early information from her was that the rest of the girls are alive and well and, you know, are holed up in Sambisa forest under Boko Haram fortification,” said Olatunji Olarewanju, from the “Bring Back Our Girls” campaign.

“And then she also said unfortunately that about six of the girls may have died over the course of the 765 days.”

Boko Haram militants captured a total of 276 girls in the school raid in April 2014- Dozens of them were able to escape, but more than 200 remain unaccounted for.

The group has killed an estimated 15,000 people and kidnapped men, women and children.

They have waged a six-year campaign to carve out an Islamic caliphate in northeast Nigeria.

This is good news that one has escaped and been found. She is very lucky. We must hope the others will be rescued soon and be successfully reunited with family and friends.

So one girl who is now a "married" woman has been found DESPITE the total incompetence and disinterest of the Nigerian authorities. She will now be ostracised by society and suspected of being a potential suicide bomber .
