Kanthicha ‘Yui’ Chimsiri presents her ‘Golden Pagoda’ costume for Mrs. Universe 2016 on Tuesday in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — Coming on the high heels – or bumper – of beauty pageant Aniporn Chalermburanawong's winning tuk-tuk costume, the would be Mrs. Universe probably expected her iconic Thai costume to also win accolades.

But as Kanthicha "Yui" Chimsiri found out yesterday, the appointed guardians of culture at the Ministry of Culture were not pleased by her dress inspired by the most important Buddhist temple in the nation, which she introduced Tuesday.

Ministry of Culture= a bunch of backwards dinosaurs!

It does look kind of dumb

For once the ministry of culture has called it right, thats aweful, and childish and one supposes they trying to copy the "tuk tuk" one from last year ?

As a representative costume, maybe she could wear a "schoolgirl" outfit, popular amongst some go-go girls.

What happens if she is wearing it and needs a last minute poop?

Looks like a cross between a squid and a swordfish.

Wouldn't wear it myself - haven't got the legs for it!

And I thought the government encouraged INNOVATION.

should just wear her university uniform.

I suggest a bullet proof vest, to reflect jealous love triangles, or an all round airbag to reflect Thailand's road safety record, or maybe a duck tape gag, to reflect freedom of expression. That would be more appropriate

She looks absolutely ridiculous. Does the country no favours dressing like that. Get it off.

Ministry of Culture= a bunch of backwards dinosaurs!

They are the torchbearers of Sakdina, just doing their job.

She sort of look phallic, perhaps they should send a ladyboy instead.

Epic FAIL......

Well, I think she looks gorgeous.

The only interesting thing is the slit by the legs. As the song goes "you can keep your hat on". clap2.gif

Bet you say that to all the girls, you old romantic, you.

It does look kind of dumb

I don't agree. I think you're being charitable.

I think it looks very dumb.

Ah... now I get it. It's the Thai version of a straight jacket, to show the world the junta can get their ambassadors in line. If she gets frisky just pull the bell down.

The thing is @#$% ugly...

Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder.

Thainess of that is the key and we farangs cannot understand and after all the instructions we still think that her costume was nice and beautiful. We are not Thai enough to love tuk-tuks. Lol

if the culture ministry hadnt slammed it the aesthetic ministry would have.

Very "Dada". You cultural ignoramuses obviously don't appreciate the fine subtleties of this avant-garde costume.

If you turn her upside down, the headgear plus costume outline looks like my GF's vibrator coffee1.gif

I don't know Wat the fuss is all about
