Justice Ministry holds conference addressing alleged scapegoat issue

BANGKOK, 20 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Justice has held a video conference with agencies nationwide on procedures to assist 'scapegoats' in criminal cases, who are not capable of accessing legal procedures themselves due to the cost.

Ministry of Justice’s Deputy Permanent-Secretary Pol Col Dusadee Arawuit has presided over a video conference to provincial justice offices, regarding assistant procedures to alleged 'scapegoats' in criminal cases. Agencies are responsible for actively informing the suspects that they can request for financial support, such as hiring lawyers and paying for bail.

Financial support will be allocated from the justice fund, which provides compensation coverage to victims or persons affected by crime.

The Ministry of Justice’s deputy permanent-secretary has given an example of the Ministry’s work on the case of attempted murder, which has received complaints from the suspect’s relatives, stating that the suspect is innocent.

The complaint has led to a re-examination of all evidence, and ultimately to the release of the suspect who was mistakenly imprisoned for 5 months.

I don't think the term scapegoat is appropriate for this type of help. Maybe "indigent" or just "poor" would be better.

Also, tell the people their rights.

That's wonderful that the justice ministry is finally facing the fact that many innocent people are being herded through the justice system.

Where would LOS be without scapegoats, you can't put Hi-So <deleted> in jail, it's just not cricket.
