Education Visa

Featured Replies

Hello, i'm new to the fourm. I am looking into getting a ED visa for 1 year to learn thai / stay in Thailand. I understand its not possible to gain a work permit? (I may he wrong). Is there a certain amount of money you are expected to have in your bank account? I just don't see how you can live in Thailand for a year with no income unless having a nice amount of savings.

I would be very interested to hear of people's experiences!

I'm 25 from the UK.

Thanks

You cannot get a work permit while on a non-ed visa or an extension of stay for attending school.

If you found a job you could get a non-b visa, work permit and an extension for working and still attend school if you wanted to.

You do not need financial proof to get a non-ed visa or extension.

Ok thanks for the info. I find it very strange with Thailands strict visa system they don't ask for proof of funds for the ED visa.

I would still very much like to hear from people who have done a year on the ED visa :)

Thailand's visa requirements are actually much more generous than other nations in Asia.

I applied for my Ed visa at Thai consulate in Vientiane. The officer never asked for proof of fund.

Hard cash is sometimes better than proof of funds. For an ED visa you have to pay. for people that are just getting visas to live with out buying services they want proof of funds, if that makes sense. Marriage and retirement visas aren't buying anything but staying and hopefully spending. So these visas require proof of funds. Elite and ED visas are granted because people are spending money so they want customers, your cash is your proof of funds.

That's my take on it anyway.

Nonsense !

A 90 day single entry Ed visa costs 2000 Bht and no proof of funds is needed. What is needed is paperwork from a school which supports an application for an ED visa.

There are associated costs because you pay a school. You are a customer in this case. I said there is no proof of funds if you pay for a service you are basically saying the same thing. You pay the school to get the paper work in order to make a visa.
