Bank customers ordered to lie on the ground in armed Udon bank heist Sunday

UDON THANI: -- Armed robbers made off with 430,000 baht in a heist at a Bangkok Bank branch in Udon on Sunday.

One robber in a helmet brandishing a gun grabbed a security guard in a headlock and ordered terrified customers to lie down before jumping over a counter and raiding a draw reported Daily News.

He stole 340,000 baht in cash as well as dollars and euros totalling 430,000 baht before running out of the bank and getting on an accomplices motorbike and escaping.

The attack happened at the Lotus branch of Bangkok Bank in the Rangsima market.

Those bank's guards are pretty much useless with most without weapons and serves as doormen

and gofers, and even if they have a gun, they would probably wouldn't know how to tackle a robber

and subdued him without shooting either himself or others around....

Solutions? not many really, perhaps the Australian model where by all cash goes in the vault immediately

and all withdrawals at the cashier points comes out of the same vault when the cashier punch in the

amount to be withdrawn......

You make a very valid point. In Sawang they have now permanently a cop after they got robbed last year.

You make a very valid point. In Sawang they have now permanently a cop after they got robbed last year.

So in essence they still only have a doorman.

While I will not name the bank I have witnessed a central bank and Bangkok with millions of baht stacked behind the counter (Why?) and the money counting room, unlocked, obviously next to the main counter as a man with a dirty smock walked out of the room and there was no more than four unarmed security guards in the whole building. I was amazed and I'm still amazed.

I almost felt like it was an IQ test and I was failing it by simply depositing money at this bank ;)
