CHIANG MAI: -- A serial rapist and thief responsible for kicking women from their motorcycles in two districts of Chiang Mai has been caught by police.

Pornchai Nanta, 29, was arrested after a warrant had been issued earlier this month following around ten separate incidents in Doi Saket and San Sai districts involving young and older women reported Daily News.

And it emerged that the man, who admitted his crimes, had been jailed for theft and robbery twice before. Whenever he was given his freedom he would revert to serious crime.

Pornchai's modus operandi was to follow women who were alone on motorcycles then kick them off. He would drag them into secluded areas and rape them and steal from them. He told police that he wanted sex with his victims and it didn't matter if they were young or old. Sometimes he used condoms.

Police said that he had been jailed for four years at age 17 for theft. Let out at 21 he had committed robbery and been jailed for eight years. Released again he had immediately gone back to his criminal ways. Porchai admitted to eight cases of theft and rape but police suspect there may be more.

He had been attacking women since the end of last year until May when police got a break with CCTV evidence and traced him to a house. He was not there but they got a warrant and later picked him up in Chiang Kham district of Payao.

Humane mindset

Why not offer to take him in next time he's released from his cage. I'm sure you'll enjoy converting him with your kindness.

Good luck with that!!!

Chiang Mai is NOT in the north as some would have it. To me BKK is down south but I would bet that those living there would say that Phuket is south. There rant over , now off towards the Mekong which is east of where I live 20k south of Myanmar .

If it were your daughter.....?

Quite obvious to me, all those asking if it was your daughter, probably don't have personal experience.

If something like this happens to your daughter it certainly is no help if the father is in prison after extracting revenge, and what happens to the rapist is not really important.

Your daughter is.

If she wants revenge, so be it, but later.

If she wants to forget, so be it.

If she wants to cope with it, so be it.

If 20 years later she still cannot cope with it, forget it, help her.

If she needs revenge, help her.

it IS very important what happens to the rapist!!!

there's no such a thing like one-accidentally, randomly committed rape ... it is a mind set (if not illness) and it is almost always a serial, repeatedly urged and committed issue.

It seems that he knew what he did was wrong. He knows from being in jail what crimes are. No matter his situation mentally, he can not live a normal life because he ruins other people's lives. He is a danger to the public. Put him away somewhere. I suggest, those who feel sympathetic, or believe they can help rehabilitate him, go visit and talk to him. See for yourself. Now, you might suggest that women wear baggy clothes, and grow facial hair?

WARNING: Such robberies are still happening in Chiang Mai, and it could happen to any woman driving alone on a motorbike, even in broad daylight where help is not too far away.

Yesterday, on Thursday, May 26, 2016 around 5 PM, there was an attempted robbery on my girlfriend in Amphoe Saraphi (Sarapee). It happened on the long SW-NE road (just south of the outer Chiang Mai ring road) as she was going northeast from around Wat Don Kaeo towards Vachiralai Bee School around the Nong Phueng area.

She was driving alone on the long straight road with fields and trees on both sides, when a man in a blue, on a red motorbike, drove in front of her, stopped her, and tried to grab her bag. She said the ordeal was 1-2 minutes, and she couldn't really remember what the man looked like due to the sheer terror.

She resisted and he grabbed her by the breast and attempted to push her down, but she managed to flee with her motorbike and bag and yelled as loud as she could. People came out of their houses and the man fled. They gave her a chair to sit down and comforted her for 20 minutes or so.

She has never experienced anything like this before.
I told her to file a police report today.
The man was wearing a blue shirt, so it might be a construction or factory uniform.
The surprising thing was that this took place in broad daylight right before 5 PM.

And this is a 40-year-old woman with a large, heavyset body (just more than 70 kg) with strong arms, so she could have resisted much better than the average Thai woman, and doesn't look like the easiest robbery target either. She might have been targeted because she happened to be driving more slowly at the time.

After reading this article, I started wondering if this man just got out of jail and started committing these robberies again.

I agree but why f'rinstance can not the headline read ........................thief arrested in Chiang Mai ? Not arrested in the North. If I see ...thief arrested North of Chiang Rai , I will take a look. If it says ................arrested in Pattaya , I won't bother to open .
