CHANTHABURI: -- Volunteers swung into action Monday to help save thousands of fish threatened by changing conditions in a historical Chanthaburi Park.

Many fish had already died after the long period of hot weather had been followed by torrential rain on the 20th of the month. But volunteers in boats helped extract the dead animals and save those still alive. And a large pump was brought in to oxygenate the water at the Thung Na Cheuy lake in the King Taksin memorial park reported Thairath.

Woritsata Noopin, a fisherman involved in the effort said that the dramatically changed conditions for the fish after hot weather then rain had caused many to die. Fish were released into safer areas of water nearby as fishermen pressed local authorities to act to preserve the ecosystem in the lake, a popular attraction in the eastern Thai city.
