CDC Chairman denies claims of possible extension of NCPO’s time through new draft charter

BANGKOK, 25 May 2016 (NNT) – The Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Commission has denied claims that the new draft charter will help extend the time in office of the National Council for Peace and Order.

CDC Chairman Meechai Richupan said that the latest draft Constitution has not been prepared to help make it possible for the NCPO to continue its existence for three more terms, as some have expressed concerns about.

Mr. Meechai also denied that such a scenario is possible through the NCPO’s nomination of future senators or members of new organizations.

He stated that all parties involved in the reform process are working collaboratively and no one stands to gain or lose as the common aim is to work to serve the country.

The CDC Chairman also conceded that there have continued to be attempts to distort the contents of the draft charter, and the charter drafters have been working hard to correct any misunderstandings, while the Election Commission will be handling any legal action that may arise in those cases, which is beyond the CDC’s power.

Instead of denying the charges he should use arguments, reason, and logic to explain why it is not so.

He could even start a dialogue or discussion with the people who made the claim so they can come to a shared conclusion what "the truth" is.

But who am I kidding?

He thinks he is so high-up that nobody should question him and he won't lower himself to explaining why he is right.

Unfortunately this is something inherit in Thai culture...

Possibly reflecting my personal bias - just didn't seem to be that many good words which,even putting myself in the shoes of a Junta fan could even remotely be imagined to be applicable to this charter.

If it was true, he wouldn't say so.

He drafted a dreadul document.

He was partly responsible for what happened under Sarit because he drafted Sarit's constitution as well.

So. How much credibility would it be reasonable to attach to anything he says?
