BANGKOK — The human rights community today signaled cautious optimism about the interim cabinet’s move to criminalize torture and enforced disappearance by public officials in Thailand.

Endorsing the bill nine years after its adoption was first urged, the cabinet’s resolution said the law would “enhance the effectiveness” of existing laws and serve “to raise human rights protection in Thailand to the same par with the international standard,” according to an unofficial translation.

Abductions and torture by government officials doesn't happen in Thailand. The officials don't get their hands dirty with this. Also, many laws are made in Thailand yet, rarely get enforced for long unless someone catches it in vdo and shares it with the world. So why bother to make this a law?

And how do you enforce a law when it is the law enforcers who commit the act itself? I'm not saying it actually happens, as I have never seen it. But, what if heheee

The Latin phrase Ad Festina Lente ( To Make Haste Slowly ) should be the national motto.

The ""abduction and enforced disappearance of people by public officials in Thailand "" will be made illegal.

So what about the invitation you can not refuse followed by a dash of "AA" for a week or a month, will that fall under the new laws? ok ok sorry my bad, just taking the p*ss

That implies they are boosting up an already effective measure.

The press releases are designed to the say its "" unfair "" when a red card appears.

If only words had currency anymore.

Thailand has recently been described as promises being worthless when human rights are concerned.

So we will see , (as predicted by some ) many snippets like this.

Unfortunately , buying time was all they needed to fish for new markets.

They recently have done this.

The slaves will continue .

Torture will continue.

As for international standards sure its dubious to enter the fray on that one.

We have seen detainees in orange jump suits over the years.

However even AA in Thailand is a form of torture if you want to be precise.

Fear and detainment for opinion is wrong and a form of torture.

LM crosses many lines as ambassadors have pointed out.

The world would rather see elections and the majority rule.

But if not .

At least stop the BS here .

We know what's going on.

We understand

It's plain wrong.
