Baerboxer
How long is the big, rough, tough, soldier boy of a PM going to allow this fiasco to continue ? The monk is making a fool of govt agencies and being allowed to do so but i suppose it's easier dragging in students etc for AA and threatening critics with 10 years in jail because they're all easier to handle. Great leadership, again ! Nonsense. Would you expect Mrs Merkel to arrest the Cologne sex attackers because the police were inept? Or Cameron to sort out when and English or Welsh force cock up; or we Nicola as Police Scotland are a model for cock ups at the moment? Serving and arrest warrant is a matter for the police or law enforcement agencies. The RTP are renowned for their abilities to serve or not serve warrants depending on how easy or dangerous it is. The DSI don't seem much better. What the PM or any other PM hasn't done is sort out the police and law enforcement agencies and getting in them doing the job they are sworn and paid to do. This abbot seems no different to the hiso, elite, connected, celebrity types who simply do as they please because they know how inept the police are. Thankfully no religious groups or dissidents of one sort or another have ever challenged legal order anywhere in Farangland. And your point is?? "What the PM or any other PM hasn't done is sort out the police and law enforcement agencies and getting in them doing the job they are sworn and paid to do." So. Great leadership , again, then. What you appear to have trouble understanding is that the guy in the big chair (whether he stole it or not), takes responsibility for everything under his purview. The police are under his purview, so there really isn't any argument is there? So what were you arguing about? What did the post said that you were contradicting? Nothing it seems. Just making smoke. Winniedapu
This is well-known as a redshirt-supporting or affiliated temple. they are doing the smart thing for them, because many people would abandon their kids before they would abandon their beliefs. The only Dhammakaya cult believers I know are all middle class, PDRC yellowshirt supporters, with origins mainly in the Buddhist South. Dhammakaya is all about money. They'd get little dosh from redshirts. The ones you know about. OK, I understand. W
silent
This is well-known as a redshirt-supporting or affiliated temple That is not my understanding. The vast majority of temple supporters are middle class and hi-so Thais, who belief that throwing as much money as possible to this corrupt sect will bring them merit. If some poor redshirt from Issan tried to enter the temple, they would be kicked out. My wife says all are welcome as long as they bring a Gift. Even Farangs that do not believe are welcome if they bring a Gift Tell your wife that even xenophobes don't have to bring a gift and are even given something to eat if they want. It's an extremely dangerous "cult" practicing peace and goodwill that appreciates donations but don't solicit like the Salvation Army. After working in Toronto Housing for years dealing with unbelievable felons in places like crack dens, I can appreciate the tremendous fear of the unknown that a bunch of people in white and orange clothing presents. Sandy Freckle
Thailand..., and much of the S/E Asian peninsula has always chosen to self select and hybridize their own version of Buddhism...., it's plan wrong that they claim to be Buddhist. This specific Wat and Abbot are not so poor at all. It's a week known fact that over many years many Thai monks have committed various crimes. This mob have all the appearances of a sect hiding under the robes of Mayayana Buddhism.Has his holiness the Dali Lama ever visited the region ? . Wilsonandson
I spend hours everyday looking through Thai media websites for news stories related to the ones featured on Thai Visa Thailand News. I enjoy finding out the latest news. Translating, looking for videos, photos, etc. I'm not the only one. This armchair media hunting or armchair detective thing is many peoples hobby these days. I try to get the latest news on Thai Visa before anyone else. Sometimes I win sometimes I lose. I enjoy playing. I have always been a news junky since a little boy. Just in case you were wondering why I post some of the stuff you see. Just sayin. Yes I know I'm sad. Still, beats stamp collecting. oldlakey
Wat Dhammakaya has had a strong following amongst Bangkok, often Sino-Thai, middle class adherents for many years. There is little or no real buddhism in Thailand, only the fake type where wats take in in criminals and all they do is go out to collect 'alms' and 'donations' in exchange for pointless 'blessings' that the very stupid population thinks will assist them not to come back as cockroaches in the next life. Like all established religions, what the people see is what they expect to see, and because they don't know the first thing about it, all they expect to see is a bunch of social rules for them to ignore. And that includes (imho) 95% of all monks, male and female (mee chii as i recall), though in my experience, the women are marginally the more genuine as far as self-improvement and a decent ethos for living are concerned. crosthwaite
I think the Monk and the Red Bull "Boss" should get together for drinks. They could start a school, with Donald Trump as a guest speaker. DaveinAsia
The way this is going it could end up as another Jim Jones fiasco. 555! Not going to happen. The difference between Mr Jones and yer man over at Dummykaya is quite simple. Jim Jones was so schizophrenic that he really believed in his own BS and was willing to die for it and take as many as his followers as possible with him in the process. Yer man over at Dummykaya on the other hand is a true con man who is only willing to sacrifice his idiot followers while he escapes in his private jet
