EC ready to host referendum on draft charter

BANGKOK, 30 May 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission (EC) said it is ready both in terms of human resources and budget to hold the public referendum on the draft charter.

EC Deputy Secretary-General Boonyakiat Rakchatcharoen said the commission has so far had no problems finding the manpower or obtaining the financial support to organize the referendum.

The EC on June 15 will also appoint an election committee in 63 provinces that have no provincial EC office. The panels will be responsible for organizing the vote in their respective jurisdictions on August 7.

Meanwhile, Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) Spokesperson Udom Rathamarit said more provinces have organized lectures with speakers who have volunteered to inform locals in their communities about the draft charter.

CDC representatives will visit each province to survey how much people know and understand the content in the draft charter, as well as public opinion on the constitution.

Another non-news and completely unnecessary announcement, designed only to garner credibility and keep the EC in the public eye. And the Commissioners and Officers of course.

inform locals in their communities about the draft charter.

But only of the merits of the draft and not the demerits.

Unfortunately, those people who find fault with the draft cannot have equal time to also inform communities.

But then the Prayut regime is not about equal representation, it's about controlling the message to protect power.
