BANGKOK — Despite “one or two” patients currently infected with Zika virus in northeastern Thailand, authorities said on Monday the disease is under control.

600 policemen on standby to support DSI’s action on defiant abbot

BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police has put a force of 600 police on standby to support the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in enforcing the court's warrant for the arrest of Phra Dhammachayo, abbot of Wat Dhammakaya, if he still remains defiant of the order to turn himself in to face charges.

BANGKOK — Good news: Lab tests found orange juice confiscated from an illegal production ring last week was the real stuff after all, and not fake OJ as widely reported. The bad news? It contains bacteria commonly found in animal feces and therefore violates food safety laws.

Families of the children killed earlier this month in a school dormitory fire perform funeral rites according to their beliefs Tuesday in Chiang Rai province.

CHIANG RAI — It was 5am when Winai Pisailert received a phone call from the hospital. A woman’s voice told him his daughter was seriously injured from the fire that broke out in the dormitory late night while the 11-year-old was sleeping.
