Cat 'O' 90 Days extension

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Ok, in LoS on normal Cat 'O' non-imm visa - my 4th or 5th. My problem is, i'm running up against the end of it at the same time as trying to get the Spouse Visa application in. The dates on the Cat 'O' stamp are 29 JUN 2015 to 28 JUN 2016.

Problem starts : because of business in the UK, i couldn't leave there until AUGUST 17th 2015, thereby losing some valuable visa time. Ok, so my dates for visa-runs are all over the place. The LAST visa-run i did was MAY 5th re-entering Thailand, with AUGUST 2nd as 'admitted until'. The usual 90 Days.

My question is - i know that if i exit LoS on JUNE 28th, my original end-date, i should get another 90 Days on the visa from that date. But what would happen if i don't exit until that AUGUST 2nd stamp ? Is there any chance they'd give 90 Days from that date ? Or would they just count back to the original JUNE 28th and do the 90 days from there ?

Just being hopeful ! whistle.gif

Enter before the use before end of day (28th) and you will get 90 days. After that the visa is dead and can not be used for any entry so an exit/return August 2 would result on whatever visa exempt entry you may be eligible for.

Your visa expires June 28. If you exit/re-enter on August 2, or any day after June 28, you will get 30 days from the date of entry, nothing to do with June 28.

If you enter after the enter before date on your visa you will only get a 30 day visa exempt entry. You have do your entry on or before the enter before date.

If you plan on applying for a one extension of stay based upon marriage you could apply for it during the last 30 days of your current entry. You do not have to wait for your visa to expire.

Big thanks to all the wise words !

Yep, got it - exiting by JUNE 28 will get me to SEPTEMBER 28 or a number very close to that.

Hopefully my spouse application will be in by the end of this month, JUNE, so a decision might well come back by end of JULY judging by the current Processing Times published for BKK.

Can i ask a simple question about the logistics of selecting a proposed 'Date Of Travel to the UK' ?

If we put the application into VFS at the end of JUNE, and say we want to travel SEPTEMBER 1st - two months later - will they start the Visa from SEPTEMBER 1st ?

(ASSUMING SUCCESS !). Or will they do something weird and start the visa on the day they make the decision ? - which could be a lot earlier obviously.

Lastly - when does the 30-day VIGNETTE start in this scenario ? (only just learned about this exotically-named complication)

THANKS in advance !

It might be best to ask that question in the migration to other countries section for attention of those doing same procedure.

You would have to enter on or before the 28th to get another 90 day entry.

You should ask the question about the visa for your wife here: Visas and migration to other countries

Thanks v. much.

If i get the last 90 days out of my Cat 'O', can i then do the run again when the 90 days are up, and still get that 30 day Visa-exempt entry ?

(I'm UK citizen.)

You could get a 30 day visa exempt entry after 90 day ends or you could apply for a 60 day extension to visit your wife and obtain a re-entry permit if you need to travel during the 60 days.

Many thanks ubonjoe - so just to make sure i've got it straight :

1. I could do another visa-run after the 90 days ends to get a 30-day visa exempt entry, not go to the immigration office ?

2. Or i could go to the immigration office to get a 60-day extension for the purpose of 'Visit WIfe' ? Is this again after the last 90 days ends ?

3. Does the No.2 option have to be done before the 90 days ends, or can it be done during the 30-Day visa-exempt period ?

I suppose what i'm trying to stretch it out to is : Do last Visa-run to get the 90 Days / then go over again to get the 30-Day visa-exempt entry / then go to Immigration to get a 60-day extension to 'Visit Wife' - asking too much ?!!

1. Yes

2. You could get the 60 extension at the end of your current entry that ends on August 2nd. You mentioned a trip to the UK. When do you plan on leaving for the trip?

Or go out and get a new 90 day entry that could be extended for 60 days. The 90 days would get you to the end of September if you get a re-entry permit to keep it valid when you make your trip in August. Then the 60 day extension.
