A friend (new arrival) to CM has moved into a very nice condo.

Only problem is the plumbing fitting in the Kitchen sink (see below).

I have seen these in laundries and bathrooms but never in a kitchen sink.

Washing dishes becomes an issue, he has tried inverting a bowl etc but leakage and any movement kills that idea.

So ...anyone know how to deal with this CM specific. Is there somewhere that makes a "plug" for this beast....or is it a lost cause (short of replacing fitting).

It does seem an odd size...about 14cm across for the black rubber insert....even Imperial seems an odd size at around 5 and a quarter inches.

Please excuse the grot...yet to bw cleaned after dishes so snapped quickly when he mentioned it.

the black rubber part lift right out....then you could stuff a small towel in it...or buy a small plastic tub, that you can set in the sink...otherwise, it must be a commercial size.

You have to use plastic or aluminum container if you need to wash items in water. The drain is designed to keep most items above the food trap below and allow easy access to clean and is the normal drain on inexpensive kitchen sinks sold in Thailand shops.

This is a typical Japanese kitchen sink fixture. There should be a basket below the rubber. Japanese upermarkets sell packets of very cheap, disposable net bags that fit inside the basket to collect food scraps for disposal. Just life out the bag and drop into the trash. Wash the basket and place in a new net bag.

To seal the drain, large plugs are sold in all Japanese home centers. If you can't order one on line, then buy a round silicon hotpad in Daiso, the Japanese 60-baht shops around town (Airport Plaza, Maya, Rimping near the river, next to Rimping Nim City.) These will be large enough to cover the drain, soft enough to seal it, and have enough friction not to be dislodged while doing the dishes.

Many thanks all. I think FolkGuitar wins......tthe condo seems to have a significant number of older Japanese couples, and I have passed a few Japanese families with young todlers at the elevator.

I have seen plugs that may fit your sink in the 60 baht Daiso shops. These are a Japanese owned chain and specialise in Japanese goods. 2 branches I know, 1 next to the Rimping supermarket near the airport and another next to the Rimping supermarket at the Kad Farnag in Hang Dong. Worth a look.

That rubber looks like the underside gasket from a garbage disposal machine. Maybe it lifts out for starters and a standard sink drain stopper should work.

That's exactly what it is.....but the sink stopper (such as the one you've shown) comes with the sink, not the disposal (and there's no need to remove the rubber gasket shown to use the regular sink stopper). I'd suggest the OP go to a place selling kitchen sinks with his measurements and I'd guess he'll find one. Come to think of it, I'd also bet the OP already has one (it comes with the sink and I'd doubt somebody would toss it out).

Had one like that and it came with a plug so you can probably find one if you are persistent.
