MissIndy
I arrived yesterday and am staying in a guest house whilst I house hunt. I have brought my small 7kg dog with me and am finding it really difficult to exercise him. I knew I'd have to be careful of soi dogs, but every other house has a dog and I am finding them quite threatening. I am carrying a stick with me (always have done) but it's scary just going outside the guest house gates! How do those of you who are dog owners exercise your pets? Merylhighground
Buy a walking stick. Most soi/stray dogs are wary of humans and will often flee at a merely raised hand let alone a stick.
uptheos
Buy a treadmill. There is no protection if you're in in area with lots of soi dogs.
taotoo
Ditch the stick as it will aggravate the situation. If the dogs only 7kg not sure why you cant just pick it up as necessary.

MissIndy
When I get settled and have transport, I will certainly investigate the reservoir option - thank you. Re Suan Buak Hat park - no dogs allowed. Trisha
taotoo
Also huay tung tao, most waterfalls, queen sirikit botanic garden, lots of parks (e.g. park on south west corner of moat, or running park on nihminnan). Maybe a stretch of the river ping somewhere. You might find prior threads on this forum.
isanbirder
It depends where in Chiangmai you are. But even in fairly densely populated areas, there are parks or roadsides where a small dog would be quite happy. I used to take mine to the fitness park near the zoo.... but it's no good telling you that if you're stuck in the Old City!
mikebell
Most dog owners just abandon their pet to fate: open the gate; let it crap where it wants or run under someones wheels; maybe it will return to restart the whole cycle again.
alfieconn
You need to find quiet areas away from Moo Bahns and built up area's, also be careful when walking close to Rice field's etc as often Rat poisoning is put down !
MissIndy
I'm staying off Rat U Thit road while I house hunt. There's a little park opposite Kawila Fort where I was told it's ok to take dogs, so I'll try there later.
MadMac
You could try Bicyclette Cafe off Canal Rd towards Samoeng. After Royal Flora. Nice place, open space and good food. Lots of space to walk the dog and have a beer
MissIndy
I'll look it up - thanks. I have just been to the park opposite Kawila Fort and it was ok - just one dog wandering in as we left, that we managed to avoid.
MrBrad
There is a good-sized park just north of the railway station. It's lightly used by the public, and always almost empty whenever I pass through there.
