Daughter's visa

Featured Replies

I have applied for an education visa for my 11 year old Australian daughter who attends school full time in Thailand. This visa was denied on the basis that a certain form was not signed by the education office in Buriram, which is the provincial capital. I queried this and the answer was that Buriram never sign this form for children, it would be signed as some form of guarantee for a foreign teacher.

In an attempt to help, our school, signed the form, but it was subsequently rejected by immigration.

I then said I would apply for a dependant's visa and was told that I needed to work for the government or be a teacher for this to be applicable.

I have since discussed this with a lawyer who says that, in the first instance the form not signed in Buriram is not required for an education visa. Secondly it is totally wrong about my employment being an issue with a dependants visa. I was advised to make a complaint against the immigration office concerned, but I am not so sure this is the way to go.

I can get the visa situation fixed, at a cost, but I am very angry as I believe I have been denied attempts at getting two visa types on nefarious grounds.

The immigration office involved is Kap Cheong.

Any comments?

Your daughter can get an extension as your dependent if you have a extension of stay. What is your extension based upon? She will need a non-o visa to apply for it.

Where did you apply for her non-ed visa? This from Vientiane"s requirements.

"For those who wish to study, an official letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand, or other sub-authorities concerned, approving the enrolment of foreign students is also required"

I think it would be better for you daughter to get a non 'O' visa and an extension of stay as your family member (Child). That way her stay is linked to yours.

You absolutely definitely do not need to work for the government or be a teacher to get a 'dependant' (family member) extension of stay for your daughter. If Kap Cheong refuse again, once your daughter has a non 'O', then maybe you should get the lawyer to help.

Sounds as though the OP may be attempting to obtain what he wants via an "agent" which is rarely a good idea.

The "work for the government/be a teacher" is unadulterated nonsense.

What the OP should do before spending money with a lawyer is to seek assistance by calling 1111
