You cannot get a 30 day Visa at a border point.

Visas can only be got at Embassies and Consulates.

As long as you haven't too many back to back or recent visa exempt entries you should be able to do a border hop (not all borders) and get a 30 day permit to stay. That stay can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office for 1,900 baht.

You will only get a 15 day visa exempt (not a visa) entry at a border crossing unless you are from a a G7 country. A 15 or 30 visa exempt entry can be extended for 30 days at a immigration office.

Just remember, you will only get 30 days by land if you are a citizen of a G7 country. Otherwise you will only get 15 days. Both entries are "visa exempt" entries and can be extended by 30 days at immigration for 1900 baht.

Just to clarify not all countries who receive a 30 day visa exemption entry (when arriving by air for example) will receive a 30 extension.

Russia for example is one of those exceptions and receive a 7 day extension instead the "normal" 30 day extension.

I am aware of that. Those that get their visa exempt entries due to a bilateral agreement cannot get a 30 day extension.
