Meechai: Assistance from Interior Min is necessary

BANGKOK, 6 June 2016 (NNT) – According to the Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), The Ministry of the Interior’s assistance to clarify the draft charter for the public is necessary as the CDC cannot do it alone.

Given the number of CDC members which is 21 persons, CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan said it is impossible for the drafting team to explain the draft constitution to people in all corners of the country; therefore, it is necessary to seek assistance from the Ministry of the Interior and its volunteers.

He said all of the charter-explaining volunteers will perform their tasks impartially and won't guide or encourage the public to accept the draft, but rather give people the necessary information that will let them decide on their own whether they accept or reject the draft.

As for meetings between political parties, the chairman said the decision to allow political gatherings or discussions belongs to the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), not the CDC, adding that the drafting team never had any problems with politicians criticizing the draft.
