Today on the eve of a possible Brexit, Erdogan finally showing its true face of Islamist uncompromisingly opposed to all fundamental values of the West. Note that Turkish people overwhelmingly support him.

Here is a major reason to hope Brexit and UE emerges from this US tutelage that drags like a ball and chain.

The US didn't and doesn't really care whether Turkey is a part of the EU or not. That is entirely and completely a decision to be made by the member states of the EU. It would, however, not been wise for the US to not support Turkey's application for membership.

Can you imagine the repercussions of the US saying that the EU should not consider Turkey? That would cause a sh*tstorm of epic proportions.

So the US did some diplomacy and the EU has kept saying they are reviewing/considering Turkey's membership. The EU doesn't want Turkey and the US completely understands. Any lobbying done was just diplomatic doublespeak.

It's quite surprising that Merkel is giving in so heavily to Turkey. Turkey will be a death knell to the already shaky EU.

Depends how one defines "overwhelmingly". Unless much mistaken approval ratings for Erdogan are around the 50% mark, election results are more or less the same.
