NRSA approves proposal on reform of emergency medical services

BANGKOK, 7 June 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly has approved a proposal on the reform of emergency medical services.

At its sitting on Monday, the NRSA reviewed a report from the committee in charge of the reform of public health and the environment, which discussed emergency medical services.

Prior to the review of the report, the committee had explained to the assembly that it believes Thailand is in need of urgent reform of the reporting and reception of emergency medical cases, as well as emergency and first aid treatments before the patients arrive at any hospital.

It has proposed the setting up of an emergency system via a hotline number, available even on a phone with a barred call service, in order to enable the public to remember the number easily and make such a call free of charge, thereby allowing easy access to the service. The committee also stressed that members of the public must receive an education on first aid skills.

In the report, the committee has asked for a fleet of 4,000 ambulances with high capacity in order to effectively cover all areas and allow medical personnel to access patients within a five-kilometer radius within five minutes.

At the end of the deliberation, the NRSA voted 144 to two, with 12 abstentions to approve the report.

Sort of like a 999 service with trained medical staff.

Sounds like a fantastic idea in 2016 why didn't anyone think of it earlier.

The question is, will there be any substance to this or will it be quietly swept under the carpet when they realise how much it'd cost? Still maybe its got a chance when they realise how much they could skim off the budget... bah.gif

It's another thing on the gunner agenda.

I'm gunner do this. Then I'm gunner do that.

The kudos comes from the announcement, not from the actuality, which, in Thailand always seems to not quite make it into reality. Which doesn't matter because after 9 days, the typical Thai has forgotten it and is paying attention to today's announcement. Short little span of attention.
