EC investigates music video criticizing the charter referendum

BANGKOK, 9 June 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission (EC) is tracking the persons responsible for uploading and sharing a music video that lampoons the public referendum on the draft charter.

Election Commissioner Somchai Sisuttiyakorn disclosed that EC officials are trying to determine when the song was posted online and shared through Facebook. According to Mr. Somchai, if people shared the music video before April 23, 2016, when the Public Referendum Act took effect, they would not face legal action. Those sharing the music video or the song after April 23 risk legal prosecution.

Mr. Somchai said the EC would also determine if more than five people were involved in the production of the music video. If the number of people involved in making the song and its music video exceeds five, they may be in violation of Paragraph 4 of Section 61 of the Public Referendum Act.

The Election Commissioner cautioned the public to think carefully before deciding to forward any clip or information on a political issue.

Pathetic, sad and unsurprising.

Best be careful. Negative comments about some action they are taking may be next on their list of regulating dissent. 555

Look at the IPad, what a surprise!

The new democracy movement leader Sirawith “Ja New” Seritiwat and fellow member's with backing from PTP and Thaksin no doubt.

Erm, no.

This man is as fine an example of decorative complete uselessness as is possible to imagine.

He's a genuine <deleted>.

Maybe Prayut should get busy penning a new tune extolling the virtues of the draft charter, in an acceptable way of course.

He needs a follow-up to his 2014 mega-chart-topping hit, "Return Happiness to Thailand"

Well, that was odd. I got a flashback to Billy Squier singing 'Stroke me, stroke me' when I thought about Prayuth singing.

Really strange. And not pretty.

Not only that, the top left hand quarter of the IPad screen has a red background, and conclusively, at least three of the microphones being brandished on the main picture have red on their labels!

It's a conspiracy I tell you! A wicked plot! Even now the dastardly one is probably chuckling into his camel milk latte at home in Dubai!

Well done indeed tukkytuktuk for unmasking it - who knows where it could have led...

It has been suggested that the theme music from Benny Hill is the appropriate melody for many Thai situations.

However, in this case, a more serious piece is called for. May I suggest:

Dueling Tubas

You should probably point out that you were being ironic as I'm afraid that was lost on him.

You should probably point out that the penalty for those found guilty of "influencing a voter" is up to 10 years in prison. Using a music video to influence people to vote no in the forth coming referendum is against Thailand's laws. As for Thaksin being involved, this was suspected months ago. Ja New has many red shirt friends and links, Nuling, catch me if you can red shirt for one. And why does that upset you? Suthep and the mad monk are pro yellow shirts. Why does the idea of Ja New being a red shirt funded by Thaksin bring shame to you. You think people out on the street really give a sh1t about who controls Thailand. No, they care about their personal lives, same, same livelyhood as it was 50 years ago. They still smile, mustn't grumble and get on with it and so should you.

I think many people do care who controls Thailand. Oh, and do you know that Thais smile for a variety of reasons? Most of them has nothing to do with happiness.

So Thais should keep on smiling, not grumble and get on with it? Well, luckily the world has moved forward from the middle ages - even in Thailand.

When will the people in fancy suits and neckties get a life?

There are significantly bigger challenges crippling the country's development.

What a load of bla bla bla ... as per usual.

Obviously, unless you were being ironic. Were you?

The Election Commissioner cautioned the public to think carefully before deciding to forward any clip or information on a political issue.

Particularly if you are thinking of forwarding it to a policeman or army officer. That would not be wise.

Awe, now you go cry in the corner, poor baby facepalm.gif
