EC urges against distorting facts to interfere with referendum

BANGKOK, 10 June 2016 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has called on certain groups not to cause confusion among voters by distorting information about the public referendum on the draft charter.

EC Chairman Supachai Somcharoen dismissed speculation that the referendum process is biased and that lyrics of the song inviting voters to exercise their rights are condescending toward the people of the North and Northeast. He clarified that the song has no intention to insult anyone as it only encourages all eligible to be ready to vote, be immune to persuasion and use their own judgment to ensure utmost fairness and transparency.

Mr Supachai demanded ill-intentioned groups to stop trying to complicate or interrupt the voting process if they love their country. The EC Chairman added that the overall situation will be closely monitored in the lead-up to the public referendum in August as the agency hopes to achieve the highest voter turnout possible.

What does having a love of country to do with allowing certain government agencies to promote something blindly without anyone being allowed to speculate on it or speak against it?

Why do they bother to promote it in such ways. They should just tell the people we are doing it this way and there is nothing you can say or do to stop it change it.

"the agency hopes to achieve the highest voter turnout possible."

I doubt this is true as a high turnout in the N and N.E. would probably sink the referendum, unless of course the vote counting process will take care of that.

maybe the headline 93% Thais vote yes in charter referendum has already been blocked up ready to go?

what is the song is there a link,?

There is the EC's pro referendum song that is said to insult the north but is OK,and there is an anti referendum song which is not OK.
