Bomb squad called as mysterious package found opposite airport hotel

BANGKOK: -- The bomb squad were called to the Suvarnabhumi airport area yesterday evening after a suspect package was found opposite the Novotel hotel.

They found a device under the trees that consisted of a plastic bottle, two phones that were turned on and a wire connecting them to an external battery reported Thairath.

The bomb squad - known as the EOD - using sniffer dogs closed the road and after fifteen minutes announced the all clear. The package did not contain explosives.

An incision had been made in the side of a 1.25 litre plastic bottle and the two touch screen phones had been placed inside. Wires led to a battery pack outside and the whole thing was wrapped in another plastic bag. An alert member of the public had contacted police after seeing the package.

CCTV in the area is being examined to discover who might have placed the package.

EOD team seal Suvarnabhumi airport road as suspected plastic bottle placed near airport hotel

BANGKOK: -- A team of explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and airport security personnel sealed the airport road in front of Novotel Hotel at Suvarnabhumi airport after a suspected plastic bottle with mobile phones inside was spotted.

Hotel staff alerted airport officers at 7 pm last night after a plastic bottle with two smartphones inside, and they were connected to power bank.

The bottle was placed at the foot of a decorative tree in front of the hotel.

The road was immediately sealed and EOD team arrived with sniffing dogs.

The team took 15 minutes to remove the plastic bottle and the two smartphones which were switched on.

No information was given on whether the bottle was a bomb or just a hoax.

But airport security and police were checking all CCTV cameras in the area to find the person who placed the bottle at the place so that maximum penalties will be imposed on the person.

Maximum penalties. :)

There are, unfortunately, some very dysfunctional people out there....coffee1.gif

Expression of dissatisfied hotel service?

Probably just trying to get a usable wi-fi signal

Phang Nga & Phuket brochure?

That looks like a large antenna in the bottle, so this might be some cobbled together telephone relay system,

to bounce calls without giving away the callers location, or and internet relaying system for the same purpose.

Just an educated guess.

But that might work as some sort of triggering system also.

All sorts of dodgy stuff here, and some people are smarter than others.

one phone could receive wifi from the hotel and connect to the other phone to act as a hot spot just a guess

Might be a "test" to see how well staff and public safety agencies respond. I pray nothing bigger is in the works.

......???......

It follows then that if airport security and police don’t find the person, penalties less than the maximum will be imposed on the person. goof.gif

i agree seen this before in the states, to hide phone tracking , connect to local web other a hotspot my guess both phones stolen , hot spot set to put up a fake free wifi set up then some one with laptop steals your info when you log on to it ect no way to find real user, card and banking scam , saw on 60 min
