Learn Basic Thai App

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Appologies if this has been asked before but I did search first.

This will be my third long trip to Thailand in 3 years and even I'm now feeling guilty about only knowing a few words.

Anyone know of a good iPhone language app so I can at least start recognising some text and perhaps not look like a total lazy Brit when away.

I ask for an app as all I have is an iPhone and I travel very light so don't take laptops of books etc.

Cheers

Edit- would be useful if the app could show the English word; Thai word, pronounce the Thaiword and then maybe use it in a sentence?

Most of the last part of your request i.e.would be useful if the app could show the English word; Thai word, pronounce the Thaiword

can be satisfied using the very excellent English Thai Speaking dictionary by Paiboon

http://word-in-the-hand.com/thai-dictionary-for-iphone-ipad-ipod-touch/

But inorder to speak Thai you will need be familiar with many things.

The structure is ,in part ,very different from English

e.g

The Question 'How many dogs do you have ?' in English

becomes

'You have dog how many body'-translating Thai word for word

It is also a Tonal language. Not easy to master and very easy to get wrong.

So if you are interested in the Thai language the aforementioned speaking dictionary is my recommendation
