BANGKOK, 13 June 2016 (NNT) - The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is determined to elevate the quality of life for people residing along canals.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security Maitri Inthusut said that he recently visited the Khlong Ladprao-Pracha Uthit community, which is one of the sub-areas of the Khlong Ladprao communitiy, to follow up on the development project underway there and to offer assurances to residents that the government will help them with their relocation until it is all completed.

The Khlong Ladprao-Pracha Uthit community is due to be dismantled by July and its residents are set to continue the relocation until the end of the year.

Mr. Maitri said that he is satisfied with the progress of the project, which has taken place in four of the 12 planned areas, as the ministry has tried to solve the problem of encroachment along canals while helping affected low-income earners to successfully move to new locations.

He went on to say that the ministry’s plan to construct high walls along Bangkok canals is now in the feasibility study phase for each location and once the conclusion is derived the Ministry of Interior will be invited to a discussion to sort out all legal issues.

As in, you are all going to be relocated because we want the area for something else.

Or maybe it's a lot simpler than that, perhaps they are going to build houses on stilts.

Are these people quite mad? High walls along canals? Hundreds of km of canals and they want to block them from view?

They do need to provide decent ,affordable housing for those displaced by this plan.

That's a bit of a mouthful for a title and name but does it beat this one who featured in another story today about heart attacks watching soccer. (a topic which has been blocked from comment presumably for fear of embarrassment for it's originator)

Deputy Public Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Suwanchai Watthanayingcharoenchai. Where does a name like that come from?

No.1 gets the prize for the title and No. 2 for the name.

The beautiful canals covered from view with high walls. I do agree that the shacks built illegally on the canals look bad. Many of them look unsafe as well.

I notice the lady herself wisely wearing multiple amulets and thangs and looking really stressed out.

Can't be too careful when coming into contact with poor people...
