webfact
Bizarre death of company president likely suicide, say policeSource: Daily NewsBANGKOK: -- Police called to a company premises in the north of Bangkok found a man dead in bizarre circumstances - he had his face wrapped tightly in clear tape and his hands were tied and attached to a bed.Sai Mai police were called to a four storey building in the Avenue Wacharapol estate late last night, reported Daily News. They found Thongma Mahamatphoom, 44, on a bed above the Ruay Dee Mee Suk leather business of which he was company president. He was face up and fully clothed and there were no signs of a struggle in the room. His hands were bound with stout string and the tape on his face and head extended to the neck area.Police said he probably arranged the hand restraints before wrapping his head in the tape. He would have been unable to breath and then placing his hands in the restraints and tightening them he would have been unable to save himself from suffocation.Relatives have been contacted to find out why he might have taken his life though police suspect a failing business is the reason. rkidlad
?? I can imagine the police now; Senior copper: "Looks like suicide to me" Junior copper: "Should we not run a blood test first before we inform the family?" Senior copper: "We could. Or, we could go for dinner" Junior copped: "Dinner it is, then"
Laughing Gravy
The way this is described as a suicide is beyond me. Please Mr. Policeman can you show us how this is possible. Even Poirot couldn't come up with that. Very sad and condolences for the family.

mtls2005
Follow the money. Seems like a lot of work to go to for a suicide - there was a case here in the last 10 years where a chap was shot twice in the head and once in the chest, and that was ruled a suicide - and this doesn't sound like a "Carradine". Winniedapu
"Police said he probably arranged the hand restraints before wrapping his head in the tape. He would have been unable to breath and then placing his hands in the restraints and tightening them he would have been unable to save himself from suffocation." It seems to me the only way this conclusion could have been reached, is for the police to have started with the assumption it was suicide and then approached the question of 'how?". If the face and head down to the neck was covered in tape, I doubt the average man would have had time to wrap the tape, make sure it was airtight. then shackle himself using string hand ties. Less than a minute if the guy was fit. The BiB don't mention if the hand shackles were tied in a slipknot that the victim could have tightened himself... Heres another possible scenario. If he was murdered, perhaps the police don't want it to be reported as a murder. Perhaps they know who did the deed, this is the Thai police we're talking about after all... More investigation needed. Remember the debacle that was Koh Tao. When too many rather dim people start theorising, things get assumed pretty quickly sand it all gets too hard. "Time for my som tam" becomes the cry. Winnie Edited June 17, 2016 by Winniedapu
dddave
Talk to any cop or EMT in any city in the world and you will find that no matter where, people kill themselves every day, often in bazaar and convoluted ways...not unique to Thailand According to WHO, Thailand was tied with Cuba for 56th place in 2012 world suicide stats...below the USA (50), Japan (17) and surprisingly, S.Korea at #2. Guyana was #1 Of course. mere facts wont deter the TV Constant Conspiracy Squad from their "Only in Thailand" mentality. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate#List_by_the_World_Health_Organization_.282012.29 Edited June 17, 2016 by dddave

It could very well have been a suicide. But at the end of the day, investigate before you assume and tell them family of the victim. A good police officer never rules anything out. And the RTP's reputation has led people to believe that they're not very good at their job. Sorry if we judge on reputation and not wishful thinking. Dogberry
Not saying he did it himself or not. And MAYBE the police got it almost right. The guy COULD HAVE wrapped his head with tape leaving only small breathing holes but with the tape overhanging. He restrained his hands, easy enough to do. Then he wiped his face across his arm or pillow or whatever, taping together and closing the breathing holes. It's been done before.
