3 days overstay - what to do?

Featured Replies

a friend of mine just noticed that he overstayed his visa for 3 days. he's got a multiple entry visa that's still valid for 6 months. he's in the northeast and would exit to laos. what's the best action for him to take? report to immigration in sisaket or go to the border and exit and re-enter? should be expect any problems re-entering? it's his first overstay or first visa violation ever.

  • Exit asap at the border.

He will pay 500 baht for every day overstayed.

There should be no problem re-entering.

he's been here for 18 years. has a wife, 2 kids. never overstayed a day. his kid was in the hospital emergency room for 2 weeks and he forgot.

i'm simply trying to help him, but thanks for the helpful advice. you really made a difference.

He can go to the border. pay the fine on departure and return without a problem.

If he is in Sisaket the crossing at at Chong Sa Ngam to Cambodia would be probably be closer than going to Laos.

Just hqve the cash ready for the fine.

No ptonlrm om onlly a 3 day overstay.

They will put a note in Thai in your passport saying you overstayed, but no problrm with only a 3 day overstzy on returning

The way I read the new rules, if you are intercepted by police, immigration etc, ANY overstay, even of a few days, results in a ban? If you surrender to immigration then upto 90 days overstay you can pay the fine. Is this correct and if so make sure your friend is not stopped at a police road block before he gets to the border.

Ask your Friend to leave right away and pau the fine

Police month's focus seems to be on overstayers

Yes ..exit at the border and pay the 500 baht fine and smile a lot and Wai them and tell them you are so sorry.

They like to see people catering to their over blown sense of authority while it is always prudent to be as polite as possible concerning people in positions of authority here in Thailand.

Cheers and good luck on your Visa run
