Tim Peake: back to Earth after an ‘out of this world’ experience

A Russian, an American and a history-making British astronaut landed safely in Kazakhstan on Saturday, after a six month stint on the International Space Station.

Briton Tim Peake said his return home was ‘the best ride I’ve been on ever’.

“Just truly amazing. Just the smells of earth are so strong and it’s wonderful to be back in the fresh air,” Peake said when asked how it felt to be back.

“It’s lovely, really good. I look forward to seeing the family now,” he said.

But he added, of his time on the ISS: “I’m going to miss the view, definitely”.

Former army major Peake was the first person representing Briton to live on the ISS and the first Briton to perform a spacewalk.

His mission for the European Space Agency captured the imagination of many of his compatriots back on Planet Earth – especially children.

The space capsule carrying the trio – Peake, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko and NASA astronaut Tim Kopra – earlier undocked successfully from the ISS.

The first Briton in space was Helen Sharman, who travelled on a Soviet spacecraft for eight days in 1991.

Am I missing something, but why is this news? I was watching Sky News earlier and you'd think this was the first time anyone had been in space!

Also wasn't there at least one other Brit, although he was a dual US/UK citizen.

Talk about overkill reporting

Just because you come from outer space.

It's interesting to us mere humans
