A cashed up, 64 year old Irishman I know who has spent about 9 months a year here and the rest in London for the last couple of years was recently refused a non O ( to be extended for retirement) at the embassy in London because of his age! They told him that new rules now apply and he has to be 65 to apply for this non O.

I know.....I found it hard to believe myself but that's what he told me.

The rule is 50 years old. Try the Hull Consulate.

Or if nearer try the consulate in Birmingham, i know many people aged well under 64 that have obtained the o visa in Birmingham. I also can tell you that he could try the consulate in Dublin as they also arrange the o visa,

Indicate precisely what you mean to say, yours sincerely wasting away.

Give me your answer, fill in a form, mine forever more.

Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm 64?

I think that Hull is generally recognised as the fairest and most helpful consulate in the UK.

When I applied for my Non-Imm O they called and went over the application over the phone because I had made a mistake. How many other consulates would just make you apply again?

Can't see the Cambodian consulate calling you...

had bad experiences with the embassy in Vienna (not age, something complete different).

Made exactly the same successfull in Salzburg.....

Conclusio: some are stupid, leave them alone and try somewhere else

Good luck

The London Thai embassy is useless. Several years ago, I applied for a tourist visa single entry, and they made me show proof of funds; ie. a bank statement stamped and signed from my bank.

As other posters have said: Hull and Birmingham will sort it.

Why is London, so unfriendly? Are they on a low wage and work-dodgers? I have not heard a single good word about the Palace Green staff in my whole life. Must send them a postcard..................

You as well? I have 1000 Baht that says it was the guy with the specs and cheap blue suit. Used to make my life a misery every time I applied for a visa, telling me my photos were not a good likeness even though the ink was not even dry on them etc. The others were helpful enough, though.

They told me that on the telephone last week - I politely suggested they may be wrong but the lady was adament. I have always found the Embassy "difficult" to deal with - thank goodness for the Consulates!

How many pints of Guinness had he had?

If you really do believe his claim, ask him who will win the tree-tirty at Tipperary tomorrow.

Perhaps 'Troll' or 'Tick' are running... :o
