BANGKOK: -- Police have announced the first arrest of a Thai woman who they say tricked women into going to Bahrain to take part in the sex trade.

Wichuda Channarong was paraded for the media yesterday. Human trafficking department officers say that she had advertised for women on social media with promises of work in the middle eastern country, reported tnamcot.

One alleged victim, named only as 'Somjai', 23, said that she was promised 300,000 baht a month but as soon as she arrived in Bahrain her passport was taken from her and she was forced into having sex.

Several women were repatriated to Thailand last month after complaints to the authorities in Bahrain. The investigation continues as others involved in the business are sought.

Whenever I see stories like this it reminds me of the political party named "Thai Rak Thai". Couldn't be further from the truth really, could it!

In TRT, 'rak' was a euphemism for the physical expression, in place of a word not used in polite company. And yes, it happens a lot.

It good to read that some of the ladies were able to get out of that bad situation and back to Thailand.

But what is sad it that Wichuda Channarong is not the only person in Thailand that lacks any form of moral fortitude,

she is just a small fish in a massive Thai ocean of sharks that are feeding off this type of sex slavery and human trafficking.

You will never she the big bosses getting dragged off to court.

Welcome to the amazing Thailand

Give her 20 years the fat whale needs a prison diet. what a lowlife.

Should we give her a trial first "shirtless" before the 20 years........??.........just to see if she's actually guilty.....or would that be stretching your Humanism to far.........I do get your other point though---overweight' bound to be guilty ....................coffee1.gif

The true wonderfulness of TV.

All terribly amusing - maybe this woman was actually trafficking young women and forcing them into prostitution - it happens all the time.

So if she is arrested- good- might save a few guillable girls in the future

not really, the people who fall for this are going to fall for something else the next day

All good to prosecute those a-holes but it won't change anything, dumb people will find a way to become slave or lose all their money or hit a parked car with no helmet on. The only way to save them is to babysit them like in the west and let them live on social welfare money without the means of travelling further than the corner store for a bit of food and alchool.

It seems the big problem was that they weren't paying the B300,000/month. If it was a genuine offer, there would be no shortage of takers.

If it was good money all the places would be taken by white girls from our home countries.

There was never a shortage of non Asian women in Japan looking to make money.

Hmmm....methinks you should have omitted the word 'gullible' and included the word 'greedy'. These women were only interested in the piles of cash and had no thoughts about the possible consequences of chasing it !

Would you be interested in leaving your home to work in a foreign country if the money offered was not a good amount?

I would not.

»... she was promised 300,000 baht a month...«

To receive almost 10,000 US$ one must have some kind of qualifications – always wonder how people can believe they will be be paid that kind of salary for, for example housekeeping or nanny or room-maid..?

Because this is the way it works- to promise a reasonable salary to someone of probably very little education- how do they know it's not the going rate for a nanny.

Is it greed? No - a chance to get out of poverty and provide for their families .

Then passport taken away, beaten , threatened, drugged, family back home threatened.

Servicing 30, 40 guys a day.

Of course TV members ( 95%) seem quite content with using prostitutes- why do you like Thailand? - cheap women of course

If the whole concept that women are just receptacles for pleasure goes away , then things may move on and then young women may not be trafficked.

And these ladies don't know what they're going into, yeah, sure. The Farang sex industry in Thailand is totally different from the local Asian sex trade. Every girl is a volunteer, and can get out anytime she wants. Most stay cos it's good money, and it beats working on the farm, and it's, well, fun.

Those people are watching thai soaps daily and in thai soaps the nanny's are not making 300 000b a month

Wonder why they don't parade the corrupt officers from the soapy massage rage?

After all they are now inactive so they have plenty of time on their hands for a photo op!

..the liquid soap factory must be feeling the pinch by now.

You make some good points.

A nanny state would be their salvation.

That's what i usualy tell thai bashers on every subjects. The only reason you feel that you are superior to thais is because those people put in the social prison of welfare back home are the same as the ones let loose in thailand that you feel are stupid.

Yet here they manage to survive by themselves.
