I have some peculiar issues with regard to my Retirement Extension. Any expert advice will be much appreciated. Thanks a million in advance.

On 6th May 2015, I obtained a Non-imm O visa in my country with single entry by paying 2200 baht. This is after submitting all bank details and police clearance certificate and medical certificates. I landed in Thailand on 09th June 2015. I went to Jomtien Immigration Office on 10th June 2015 and sought retirement extension based on funds in the Bank. I submitted all the documents including the latest bank statement. They told me that you need to come only one week before the visa expires i.e. by 01st September 2015 only. I needed to travel out of Thailand and hence i could not complete the process.

Again on 08th September 2015 I applied for Non-imm O-A visa in my home country with all the necessary documents once again. This time i asked and was given one year multiple entry O-A valid till 07th september 2016. (the visa says to enter before 07th September 2016). This costed me about 5500 baht.

From September 2015 till now i entered and exited Thailand few times. I needed to do this as I have sick parents to take care of in my Home country.

Now my questions are:

Right now I am in Thailand with permission to remain here till 12th June 2017. If i go to Jomtien immigration and seek extension based on Retirement (all other conditions being met properly such as funds in the Bank etc.) are they bound to do it? or will they again tell me come nearer to the expiry date i.e. 12th June 2017. This is not going to work out for me as I may be required to travel anytime.

Alternately Can I seek multiple entry Re-Entry permit? From what i could understand, Re-Entry permit can be issued only when there is a valid extension in my passport based on Retirement. Am i right here or Am I missing something?

Second question is, if they do not give me the above, Can i enter Thailand exactly on 07th September 2016 (the visa clearly says enter before 07th September 2016? I have some issues and cannot land a day before that. Of course i am going to try landing on 06th September 2016 if that is possible. Is it too risky? Am i cutting it too fine? Can they technically refuse entry?

Third, even if I land on 06th September 2016 with a permission to remain here till 05th September 2017, if the immigration refuses to give me extension based on retirement and tells me that I need to visit them only closer to the date of expiry, can i get a Re-entry permit valid till say 05th September 2017. I am confused.

  • No they are not obliged to do it. It can be done within the last 30 (maybe 45 days ) of the permit to stay. BUT there is no point applying now as you already have permission to stay until June 2017.

You have a non "O-A' visa which allows multiple entries for 1 year. So you can leave and return anytime until the 'enter before' date (September 7th) printed on the visa.

Every time you enter before the visa expires you'll be granted a 1 year stay.

You should enter as close to September 7th as you can in order to get the most from your visa. An entry on or before September 7th will be granted a 1 year permit to stay.

After September the 7th you will need a re-entry permit if you want to leave/return and keep your permission to stay alive.

You will not be able to apply for an extension until next year.

If you leave and re-enter on or before the enter before date on your visa will get another one year entry.

After the enter before date on your visa you will need to get a re-entry permit to keep the last one year entry valid. A single re-entry permit costs 1000 baht and a multiple is 3800 baht.
