Why savannakhet?

Featured Replies

I have seen quite a few places recommend getting a non-immigrant o visa at savannakhet. It is a bit of a ballache to get to though compared to Vientiane (more expensive/annoyingly timed flights etc). What is the advantage of going there as opposed to say Vientiane? I am getting it based on marriage if that makes any odds.

Cheers,

Westen

Savannakhet issue multiple or single entry non 'O' visas but Vientiane will only issue a single entry.

Thanks a lot.

What elviajero says................. it is the ONLY place to get a 12m O visa.

They only issue marriage visas for 12m - not retirement.

thanks. Just realised this was explained on another post I write in but I didn't understand it.

Can I extend the multi-entry whenever? Say I did not have the 400K for the 1 year extension straight away, could I get the multientry, leave after 3 months, come back in on that same visa then extend for a year after that? In my head the multi and single entry ones are different for some reason but I do not know where I have picked up that impression.

Thanks.

  • Every time you enter using the multi entry visa you're granted a 90 day permit to stay.
  • You can apply for a 1 year extension within the last 30 (maybe 45) days of any 90 day permit to stay.

You were very lucky or had special circumstances. Many have been turned away for a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over.

someone may correct me if im wrong here but as far as i know most people go to savannakhet for marriage visa as they dont require the 400k in the bank , they dont ask for any proof of money at all .

As i said i may be wrong on that but a freind of mine got his marriage visa there without showing any bank accounts

They go there for a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage and because they do not ask for financial proof.

Other locations will only do a single entry non-o visa.

Does anyone know what the Consulate holidays are in July, I'm aware that my daughter is off school from 18/19 and 20th and wondered if the Consulate will be open or closed on those dates.

I've looked at the Consulate's web page but just showing last years holidays!

I presume it's no problem crossing into Laos when there are holidays?

I use Vientiane's calendar since Savannakhet's is seldom up to date. It shows July 19th and 20th for holidays. See: http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/en/embassy/calendar.php

The crossing is open every day. They do not close for holidays.

A visa is applied for at an embassy or consulate an extension of stay is applied for at an immigration office.

Since you have mentioned Ubon as where you will be living you would need to apply for a single entry non-o visa in Savannakhet after you get married. It is short trip to Mukdahan where you can cross the bridge to Laos. Then you could apply for a one year extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon marriage at immigration.

The immigration office here does not do the conversion to a non immigrant visa.

Dear thank you very much
