SAMU SAKON: -- Talad Talay Thai, Thailand's famous seafood market in Samut Sakhon province, is now placed at tightened security as it will be a place where Nobel Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, now Myanmar State Counselor and Foreign Minister will meet her people when she visits Thailand from June 23-25 as guest of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha.

The visit will be her first official overseas visit after her party won election in Myanmar although she had came here at Talad Talay Thai in May 2012, the first unofficial visit in 24 years .

On the second visit, she will meet her people who are working in Thailand.

The State Counsellor of Myanmar will be accompanied by H.E. U Thein Swe, Union Minister for Labour, Immigration and Population, H.E. U Kyaw Win, Union Minister for Planning and Finance and H.E. U Kyaw Tin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, according to the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

On this occasion, the State Counsellor of Myanmar will have bilateral meeting with General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand.

The discussions will mainly focus on the issues of mutual interests, in particular, labour cooperation, development cooperation and connectivity. It is expected that the Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation Agreement on Employment of Workers and Agreement on Border Crossing, will be signed during this official visit.

On the sideline of her visit, she will be visiting Myanmar migrant workers at Talad Talay Thai.

The Talay Thai market is seen as an ideal place, as it has a big open space which can accommodate a large number of Myanmar workers.

There are several hundreds of thousands of Myanmar migrant workers in Samut Sakhon province alone.

Meanwhile, the Myanmar labour network in Thailand is drafting up complaints for the Myanmar State counselor to look into for them.

They included the better welfare and social insurance in Thai factories.

They said many Myanmar workers were dismissed just because they were injured or fallen ill.

The Myanmar people believe that this meeting with Suu Kyi will surely bring about a better change for them.

Mr Ko Ko Nai, a coordinator at the Myanmar Embassy, said Aung San Suu Kyi used to be one of them, or a normal person.

But now she has come back as a leader, and I believe that she would be able to help us, he said.

He also said every Myanmar worker wishes to go home, but the minimum wage back in Myanmar is not the same as in Thailand and there are hardly any jobs back there.

He believed with hope that the upcoming meeting would certainly improve their livelihood and working conditions of Myanmar workers in Thailand.
