roi et private hospitals

There are two:

1. Thonburi Hospital, on the west side of Highway 214, just about 500 metres north of the southern leg of the ring road.

2. Bangkok Hospital Roi-et, just south of Hwy. 23, towards the east end of town, going towards Yasothon. It has a local name which I can't remember.

I used the former once for a minor problem. No waiting, acceptable treatment and price. I have no experience with the latter.

I can Second the Thonburi Hospital... I have twice stayed there for several days while being treated for different problems, and found them to be both Professional and Accommodating... Plus have two friends who have used them with positive results... I would return without hesitation should the need arise...

The local name is the Chureevetch Hospital.

May I ask why your seeking a private hospital when Roi Et has a very good government hospital.

The government hospital isn't that great.

They have experienced doctors available, but until you've dicked around for a month you won't get to see any of them. When I was previously sick, my local GP referred me to the RoiEt government so that I could see the more experienced doctors there. Except that it took 3 weeks until they would finally see me, as despite reading a note from my Thai GP listing the medication that he'd already given me etc, they insisted that I try the same medicine but from their hospital and then come back the following week, the next doctor I saw did the same (But slightly different medication, but still the same type of medication that my GP had already gotten me to try).

Also a trip to the government hospital can take hours due to the queues of people waiting, comparatively you can be in and out of the private hospitals within an hour, often only just 15-30 minutes, as there aren't as many queues. Although the government hospital is dirt cheap I'll give it that, I think my appointments + medicine cost less than what my GP charges at his clinic, and I think that my GP amazingly cheap to begin with (usually ~200THB per visit).

RoiEt Thonburi by comparison can be extremely expensive by Thai standards, although still cheap by western standards e.g. last year I was admitted for 1 night for observation and I think it cost about 5000 THB in total, comparatively my son was admitted for 5 days with pneumonia and I think it cost about 60,000 THB in total, or somewhere around there, which I thought was quite steep considering that although he got a private room, it wasn't anywhere as nice as the adult rooms (The adult rooms are really nice, probably on par with a hotel if you swapped the hotel bed for a hospital bed lol.

You went to a private Clinic who referred you to the government hospital.

I presume they made an appointment and these take 3/4 weeks.

On the other hand if you just walk in you will be seen as per the queuing system at the time.

I've visited on 3 occasions after 8pm and never waited longer than 30 minutes.

Consultation, diagnosis and medication has never exceeded 78 baht.

In contrast I visited the Chureevetch last year with a suspected Hernia.

I paid for an ultra scan which they recommended, but when I later saw a Surgeon he was confused and reported my Liver was fine.

He had no idea what I was talking about when I said 'Hernia'.

He then examined me lying down and concluded there was no Hernia.

Not impressed, I went for a second opinion at the government hospital.

A surgeon there confirmed that I did indeed have a Hernia and was amused at my experience at the Chureevetch, as he stated you cannot detect a Hernia when in the lying position. So I guess we all have different experiences with Private and Government hospitals.

As in I went to the hospital, showed them the referral from my GP and the doctor then prescribed more antibiotics for my viral infection, despite my previous doctor's notes showing he's already given me multiple types of antibiotics to "cover all bases". Came back a week later and they wanted to do the same, told them to stop wasting my time & they at least decided to try anti-histamines instead (but would have just dished out more antibiotics otherwise). It wasn't until the 3rd visit that they finally let me see the specialist that my doctor had recommended I go to see (which was only really so that they could then give me a formal referral to the Khon Kaen Hospital to use their Bronchiscope, since my doctor knew already that it wasn't a regular case since I'd been sick for months).

But yes, very different experiences with the various different hospitals. Admittedly the doctor I saw at Roiet Thonburi about the same sickness wasn't of much use either, although my wife's doctor who did her C section was very professional and my son's doctor there is really down to earth and seems like a really good doctor to me.

The Bangkok Hospital in Roiet we've only been to for one set of vaccinations as Roiet Thonburi happened to have run out of the particular vaccine we wanted and we didn't want to make another trip for it (we live outta town). The nurses seemed nice but not really sure of themselves when giving our son his vaccination so we haven't been back. Also the doctor always gives my son his vaccinations at Roiet Thonburi not the nurses which makes me feel more confident too.

I'll chime in - I went to the government hospital yesterday just to get a medical certificate. Took about 4.5 hours from start to finish. Also don't enjoy the 'cattle farm' aspect of it. Loads of people crammed in. Some on stretchers in the middle of the waiting room. Various bodily fluids dripping about. No air con. Very grim, as are most gov. hospitals I've experienced.

Oooooooh! Bad mistake to just walk in, during the daytime hours.

You should have given me a call, I'd have taken you to one of the all day open clinics in Roi Et for a Health Certificate.

Provided you managed to walk in and are breathing, they issue one without examination for 30 baht.

Give me a ring next time your in the town. thumbsup.gif

I actually tried one clinic not far from the lake in town but they wanted to charge me 250 THB because I had to get an X-Ray. In all my years living here I've never had a place actually test me for any of the 6 (or is it 8?) sicknesses listed on the form. But the clinic wasn't going to budge so I said forget it and went to the hospital. I'll need another in the coming weeks to renew my license so I'll get in touch when I go to do that.

went to thonburi hospital yesterday to have my ears checked out(one feels like it is blocked up)

Sure hospital looks old and jaded but the service was good.Ear doctor was at govt. hospital but could see me at thonburi at 11.40 am..so my wait was an hour and a half.

Doctor was punctual and asked me to go govt. hospital for a hearing test, said he would see me there 1pm.Bill from thonburi was 250 baht.

So i went over to govt. hospital had ears tested...service again was very good, doctor saw me and came to a diagnosis...bill was 400 baht.

My first visit to the two hospitals in roi et have been good,so thanks to everyone for your information.
